Reflections for Police Officer Ryan Eugene Cappelletty

Once again tragedy has struck the hearts of the members of the Chesterfield County Police Department. We have lost another of our brother officers. Ryan's family will remain in our prayers as we help them through this difficult time in their life. Our friend Criag is waiting for you Ryan and he will welcome you to the Lord's house.

Sergeant Kevin P. Carroll
Chesterfield County Police Department

The men and women of D-Platoon/ District II, Henrico County Police wish to express their sincere thoughts to the family of Ryan Cappelletty. We would also like all officers of the Chesterfield Police Department to know that our thoughts go out to them as well.

Sergeant G. L. Watson
Henrico Police

Godspeed my brother. You were on the job for only a short time. But now you'll move onto your new beat and watch over us from above.

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premisesof all its undesirables, look with kindly and professionaleyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgment.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people. Amen.

As one who is deeply saddened by the loss of ANY Police Officer, especially those in Virginia, I wish to express my deepest condolences to the friends, family, and co-workers of Officer Cappelletty. His young career was cut short by one of those whom we try and protect against. His loss is a symbol of the sacrifice and danger of police work and will be deeply felt by myself and all members of the Louisa Sheriff's Office.

Rest in peace, brother. May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind always be at your back.

We can never lose.

Deputy P. Siewert

Being a father of four children and the uncle of a Colonial Height police officer, it breaks my heart to read of such a tragedy. Though I have never thought of being an officer, I have the utmost respect for those who are! I have often said it takes a very special and caring person to become an officer - with most carrying this as a lifetime goal. God bless you Officer Cappelletty and though your time on earth, and as an officer, was short, I greatly appreciate what you stood for! My deepest condolences to your family.

I will always remeber the sunny day in Doucette Lot, when you and your wife to be informed me of your news...you were to be sworn as a police officer. Your eyes spirited and gleaming with pride and excitement in anticipation of the start of your future. Although short, your tour of duty here is complete and honorably served. Now, you have taken on a new watch. God be with you young brother, and may he comfort your wife and family.
