Reflections for Police Officer Ryan Eugene Cappelletty

To the family of the Officer R. Cappelletty:

As a citizen of Chesterfield county, I offer my sincerest condolences. I am so sorry for your grief. It is a shame that the actions of one man has destroyed your family, his family, and the sense of order in the community. I wish you all well and my prayers will be with you.

Sincerely,

Lynette N. Johnson

A PART OF AMERICA DIED

Somebody killed a policeman today
And a part of America died...
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him by his side.

The beat the he walked was a battlefield too,
Just as if he had gone off to war;
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at
half-mast
To his name they will add a gold star.

The suspect who shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his right's,
While a young widow must work for her kids
And spend many long, lonely nights.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today...
Maybe in your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A cop put his life on the line.

Now, his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side;
He answered the call...of himself gave his all,
And a part of America died.

I have several friends who are on the Chesterfield Police Dept and when I heard this yesterday morning was worried. Just know that there are a lot of people out here thinking and praying for you and his family...also the police department. You are in our prayers. They are our HEROS! - now he is not only a hero but one with wings...an Angel Hero! Thinking of you at this time. The Adams Family, Chesterfield-Virginia

Dear Mrs. Cappelletty, My heart goes out to you. I lost my husband and father in April. My heart is broken. I have to remember we had a good life while he was here. Like your husband, mine was hard working and a good man and father to our children. Our children are 12 and 14. Please know you are being thought of and are in my prayers as well as my children's last night. Lean on your family and friends, they are so important now. I can't tell you when it's gets better, to me it never will. People say it will. Please take care and remember people are thinking of you. Sincerely, Tyra Lamb

To the Family of Officer Cappelletty,

My prayers are with you during this difficult time. It takes a very special person to be a police officer, and it appears that Officer Cappelletty was just that. Please remember these words that have comforted me many times:

Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep-Wilbur Skeels, 1996

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am the song that will never end.
I am the love of family and friends.
I am the child who has come to rest
In the arms of the Father who knows him best.
When you see the sunset fair,
I am the scented evening air.
I am the joy of a task well done.
I am the glow of the setting sun.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.

Lord of Light, in our darkest hours let us remember you walk with us through difficult times. Nothing can touch us that does not pass through His hands. I pray for peace in the heart of every family member of this young man, and let us remember that time heals. In Jesus name, comfort this family with fond memories and peace. Amen

I CAN'T EXPRESS MY SYMPATHY ENOUGH FOR THE LOSS OF OFFICER CAPPALLETTY. I LOST MY FATHER 4 WEEKS AGO SUDDENLY AND THE HURT AND EMPTINESS I FEEL IS OVER WHELMING. BUT AT HIS FUNERAL I CHOSE A PASSAGE THAT I KNEW HE WOULD HAVE WANTED ME TO FOLLOW. I KNOW THAT THIS CAN'T TAKE THE PAIN AWAY FROM OFFICER CAPPALETTY'S FRIENDS AND FAMILY BUT IT HAS HELPED ME TO SURVIVE WITHOUT HIM.
" MISS ME BUT LET ME GO"
WHEN I COME TO THE END OF THE ROAD
AND THE SUN HAS SET FOR ME,
I WANT NO RITES IN A GLOOM FILLED ROOM
WHY CRY FOR A SOUL SET FREE?
MISS ME A LITTLE-BUT NOT TOO LONG
AND NOT WITH YOUR HEAD BOWED LOW,
REMEMBER THE LOVE THAT WE ONCE SHARED
MISS ME -BUT LET ME GO.
FOR THIS JOURNEY THAT WE ALL MUST TAKE
AND EACH MUST GO ALONE,
IT'S ALL PART OF THE MASTER'S PLAN
A STEP ON THE ROAD TO HOME.
WHEN YOU ARE LONELY AND SICK OF HEART
GO TO THE FRIENDS WE KNOW,
AND BURY YOUR SORROWS IN DOING GOOD DEEDS.
MISS ME-BUT LET ME GO....

I WANT TO EXPRESS MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY AGAIN. IT'S NOT FAIR THAT A GOOD PERSON HAS TO BE TAKEN AWAY FROM HIS FAMILY SO YOUNG, BUT HE LIVES IN YOUR HEARTS AND MEMORIES SO HE'S ALWAYS WITH YOU.

Every morning I read the ODMP before leaving for work. I am brought around to reality reading the forty or so names and departments of officers killed each day. I had hoped sometime in my 24 + years that the names would stop. Now I see Ryan's name, and read Ryan's story. How sorry I feel for his family, friends, co-workers and the community. I have been to ENOUGH officer's funerals in the last 24 years. May GOD watch over Ryan's family, especially his partners and co-workers, and comfort them. The community has lost another Guardian of Freedom, and he will surely be missed. I will hope that someday, no more names will have to be added to "The Wall"....... Rest easy Ryan, those of us left behind will carry on your Noble calling, you have earned your heavenly rewards, enjoy them..... OFFICER.... Vaya Con Dios...

There are but two persons who protect the sinful human race from destroying itself. One is God's Holy Spirit. The other is the Peace Officer. Without them, we would all perish at each other's hands.

According to Romans 13.1-5...
God ordains the Peace Officer’s profession.
The Peace Officer is sent by God.
The Peace Officer is vested with God's authority to enforce the law.
A Peace Officer's badge is to be honored by us, because it is honored by God.

To the family of Officer Ryan E. Cappelletty and the Chesterfield County Police Department, your extended family of Law Enforcement Officers grieve with you during this time. I pray that God will wrap his loving arms around each of you during this most difficult time.

To all my brothers and sisters, please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in.
May God be with you every day, please remember, we are a part of the largest family in the world and when one hurts we all hurt.

Though our badges and uniforms may be different, our mission is the same. Rest in peace with our other fallen Brothers and Sisters. We will continue the fight in your honor.

Florida Deputy Sheriff

We can't explain why people or things go bad or why you were taken at such a young age. Ryan your courage, strength and willingness to help not only the people we protect but your fellow officers, is shinning example for all. You knew working in law enforcement that life could be lost and still you served. Your service has cost you life, but I am sure that your sacrifice saved one of us who would have been there had you not. We will not forget you brother. We are PROUD!!

Those who have fallen before you will guild you; as you will for those yet to fall.
We love you Go with God
