Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Toney Clayton Summey

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.

...Gone, but never Forgotten....

Toney,
It doesn't seem like it will be a year without you in two months. The first time I met you was helping a diabled motorist out of the roadway, I was headed home from my shift. The last thing I remeber is your huge smile, and you saying I've got to go, another call. We will continue to miss you always, but you will remain in my memory always. God bless you and your family my friend.

Dear Tony,

It's October now, and I wanted you to know you're still very much in my thoughts dear friend. We're all doing just fine. But of course, you probably know that with the great view you have from heaven. I visit this memorial to you from time to time, and it's still hard to accept the outcome of that day. I know you're still with me though. We were partners in many ways. I know that hasn't ended, and never will. See you later buddy. Put in a good word for us all when you get a chance... :)

Day by Day I try to make ends meet
Sometimes it seems to get the best of me
Every now and then I let it get me down
Then I take a deep breath and turn it all around
Cause I got Dreams
Of more than I got, and my dreams will defeat me not
If it's my choice, win or loose. Winning I will choose
Sometimes this world can be so rough
Sometimes I wonder, can I ever be that tough.
Then something inside my heart
Let's me know, to play my part
We all know that birds can fly
How would they know if they never tried
Giving up is easier to do, but giving up means I would loose
Dreams
I'll keep Fighting as long as I can
While I'm fighting I know I may win
Cause I have Dreams
Of more than I got, and my dreams will defeat me not
If it's my choice, win or loose. Winning I will choose
Someday my ship will come in
If it don't, I still win
I gave all of me, and in the end a winner I will be
when it's all said and done
The Lord will say "I'm glad you didn't give up",
"Now your life has just begun",
"My son you have finally won."

I am overwelmed, I cry, and it overwelms me so deeply, I can't sleep. The reflections.
When Toney's house was burned down a few years before,
I was there every single day digging a foundation, by hand with a shovel, together with him, for new home.
We poured the concrete by hand. Wheelbaro after next.
His son (I know his name), always seemed to do his best to help. We laughed and cut up as he tried to carry a single block. We stayed close, to help but was so funny.
Me and Toney poured the concrete, and became, friends.
We talked about alot of things, while digging.
"told me, if you think you can handle 911, go for it"
Well I took his advise. I applied to 911.
After that, he would always check on me. "no matter when where or what happened.", promised to keep secret.
"I'm doing best I can, my friend." "he always laughed at me saying, "Yep we all work together brother, just checking"
No matter what you said to him, he was going to be the best officer he could.
He inspired me to do better than I thought I could. When everybody else sorta gave up.
Toney gave me focus.
He would "Nextel me" on my days off, to see how I was doing.
He was great about not being pretentious and more about "how you been?"
I'll forever miss your, "beep" my friend.
"I wish I could hear it again."
To make a long story short, I will miss the shovel and the "jack hammer my friend"

Thx,
Faron

On behalf myself I appreciate all comments, read them all
May god bless all of you.

If I could have taken Toney's place.
I would in a heart beat
God didn't ask for me this time.

P.S. Toney
Could we get a shorter jack-hammer next time
Love ya bro

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officer of Deputy Summey.

While many of us in law enforcment wear different colored uniforms, we all share a common goal. We protect society from the criminal element. Rest well my friend, those of us who remain will cover your place on the thin blue line.

There is only one greater calling than that of police officer and Deputy Summey answered that other calling on this day. May you help the other angels watch over those who still walk their beat. May the tears we shed now be of joy as we remember his life here.

May God grant your family a comforting peace as you transcend this earthly bound. I have no doubt that God will meet you with open arms as you go forth to patrol the streets of heaven under his command. May God bless you, your family, friends, and all of the remaining peacemakers who will continue the watch here in your absence.
