AFTERGLOW

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an Afterglow of smiles when day is done.
I'd like to leave an echo... Whispering softly down the ways
of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the
sun of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done.

God Bless those you left behind!

My thoughts are with you. I just received an email that outlined an article in the High Point Enterprise. It was a wonderful article and sounds like Deputy Sheriff Summey was a great man.

Your lives have changed and it will be difficult but with the help of friends, family and other survivors your life will go on. Should you ever need anything please feel free to contact me or anyone in the COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors) organization.

Contact me and I can certainly put you in touch with someone local or at the national office as well.

I remember the last words that Toney said to me that Sunday
morning "Happy Trails". He said this as he left to do what he
loved to do. That was to help people. He has helped me on many ocassions and did not even know it. The memories I have of him will continue to help me. The trails will not be the
same without you buddy. I have lost a true brother. Brothes

will be missed by everyone. I love you brother.

As parents of a Randolph County Sheriffs Department Deputy, we would like to express our love and appreciation to all of Toneys co-workers and family. We know that it could have been any one of you on Sunday that gave of your life doing your job. Today, May 1, showed just how much Toney was loved and appreciated by the out-pouring of love from all that took the time to come out and support the family and extended family. Everyone should receive their roses while they are living, so, from us to each and every one of you-we love you and appreciate you more than you will ever know. Thank you and God bless and protect!

On the morning of the 26th of April I saw Toney for the last time he had stopped to help a lady who had broken down we assisted him in pushing the vehicle out of the roadway, and after asking how we were, we both went our seprate ways the last thing I will remember always was Toneys smile as he told me he had another call and had to go. Rest well my brother you will live in all our hearts forever.

As one of Toneys FTO's and his shift Sergeant I will say this, when Toney worked he worked hard and tried to help everyone he came in contact with. Always smiled no matter what. Toney loved people and to talk to them. Toney loved family and looked at the Sheriffs office as being his family from the first day he started. Toney will be missed dearly by us at the Sheriffs office. My heart goes out to the family and if the is anything that I can do just call.

Sgt. A Murphy

I SORRY ABOUT YOURE LOSS I LOST MY DAD THE SAME WAY THIS YEAR HE WAS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY ON 03/20/2003 AT 3:15 PM YOU'RE IN MY PRAYERS MAY GOD BE WITH YOU

DEPUTY SHERIFF
AVERY COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE NEWLAND NC

There are no words to describe what I am feeling at the loss of my friend Toney. My prayers go very deep for Toney's family at home and also at work. This is such a shock and one I hoped I would never have to go through. Looking back, Toney was the kind of person you hoped you would have the privilege of knowing at some point in your life. The joy he spread, the good natured thing he did I can only hope to achieve. The lord has taken you for reasons we don't understand and also don't question. Toney my friend, you were a joy to know. I once saw an inscription that comes to mind. "Time takes everything but memories" The memories that you have left will never forgotten. Rest in peace my brother and God Speed.

Toney, you were a wonderful, compassionate man who never met a stranger. May you forever rest in the arms of the angels while you watch over all those you left behind.

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Deputy Summey for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Toney be the be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Deputy Summey's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out especially to his wife and children. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Toney is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Toney was well respected and well loved. Thank you for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please take care of my fiance Dennis.

Peace, Love, Luck, and Happiness!

So sorry to hear that another officer was killed in N.C. May God watch over Deputy Summey's family, friends & coworkers during this tragedy. I know the pain and loneliness you feel and will continue to feel. It doesn't necessarily get easier, but with the support of others you can learn to deal with it a little easier one day at a time. Always remember the wonderful time you had together. You're in my prayers.
