A peace officer died today. It is such a shame that during this time of peace and joy a family, department, state and nation will have to lay one of its finest to rest. God bless your family in this time of sorrow.

Ret. P.O.
Philadelphia

My heart goes out to the Scales family at this time. It is so tragic to lose a husband, father, son at any time of the year and now only weeks before Christmas is terribly difficult.

I am a maternal aunt of South Carolina Sr. Trooper (ACE team) Michael Rao who was killed by a motor vehicle while being a Good Samaritan on I-95 in June 2002.

These men and all others will always be remembered as true heroes.

May God's love and presence give you comfort and strength now and evermore.

This is a tragic loss for the family, friends, and entire LE community. I didn't know him, but having grown up minutes from a NJSP Barrack, I feel a true afinity towards the NJSP. God bless this fallen hero.

We wish express our deepest sympathy for the Scales family and offer our prayers on his behalf. As a grandparent of two troopers - one who patrols the turnpike in the Exit 8A area and one on the Camden squad - we are somewhat aware of the constant dangers that they face. Our prayers go out each night for their safety and the safety of all of the troopers. May the family of Trooper Scales find comfort in the fact that he now rests in a better place - one that appreciates our law enforcement people.

To the family and coworkers of Trooper Scales may God be with you in this terrible time of loss and may you rest in peace Trooper Scales.

Our hearts go out to the family of Trooper Scales. We lost our son this year, June 12, 2002, from injuries sustained when struck by a PA motorist, while Mike was parked on the grass off Interstate 95 and assisting a stranded motorist from New Jersey.

Our lives will never be the same, and with the holidays coming, times will be especially difficult.

We are thankful for the outpouring of love and respect for our son, and for all men in the brotherhood, for their contributions to making the citizens of our respective states safe.

God bless you, and remember to turn to your God for strength to carry you through the days that lay ahead.

Tpr. Scales made even the worst situations better with his humor. It is a sad day for everyone who knew him. I had the honor to work with Chris on the Turnpike and I know that he will truly be missed. May God bless him and his family.

Rest in peace Chris.
