Reflections for Sergeant Scott Arner

i knew scott as a teaching parent in kansas (mcch).he helped me through the tough times of being 14 and alone.he also helped me learn right from wrong when i had nobody to teach it.i promised to name a son after him and did so on 7/8/1997,this was a sad way to find him again.all my love and best wishes to marinda.WENDELL

I met Scott when the Jasper County Sheriff's Department was guarding our facilty, and I spoke to Scott every time he worked. He would come in and tell me stories, and we would talk about hunting and fishing. One night he asked me to go on a ride around with him one night. That night he took me on a tour of the Sheriffs department and jail. I am very glad I did that, because now I can say I had the honor and privledge to ride around and get to know the nicest person I have ever met. God bless him, his wife and daughter(whome he spoke of all the time)and his dogs.

Scott I will miss the smile you had that was unending and the bounce you always had in your step. Your willingness to do demostrations with your many K-9 partners has touched peoples lives in ways you will never know, but we will always remember. God took you away from us as part of his perfect plan. We will never understand, but we must realize that it was your will. Marinda and Shannah your husband and father spent alot of hours away from you working. I want to thank you for being willing to share Scott with all of us. Scott was a true friend to all officers no matter if you worked for a department of 2 or 200 he was always willing to help anyway possible. Scott you will be forever in our hearts and your family in our prayers.......

We will forever miss you Scott, you were not only one of our Brothers in blue, but you were our friend. We could never express all the words that describe what you meant to us all. We pray for your family & friends. Every shift that goes by we wish we could call #95 for back-up one more time. We always felt an unimaginable confidence when you were responding to assist us on even the most dangerous of calls. You always had a smile, or a positive word to share whether it was your first hour on duty or twelth. God Bless & God Speed to all Sgt. Arner's family, & to all our brothers & sisters in blue.

To all my Brothers and Sisters of Jasper Co. Our thouhgts and prayers are with you in your time of loss. Thank God there are so many willing to actually step up to the plate and make a difference. Instead of just talking about what is wrong with the world. Yet unwilling to put their own lives on the line.

To all who knew him, he was invincible. He truly was a wonderful person, caring, emotional (when some of us are not)and dedicated. He strived to be the best, when we all knew he already was, he thought he could do better. I have asked myself, "how do I go on without him?" I still can't answer that. We were very close and shared common interest's. Now I go without his guidance, hoping I do the right thing. Scott, I will always need you and I hope you continue to help me when I struggle. I will never forget you !

This is the first officer to sacrifice his life in 2002. He's a very brave soul, and we all pray that this year will be less traumatizing than the last. God Bless and comfort his family and friends.

I was just advised and saddened by the news of Sgt. Arner's death. I too am a police diver, age 44. Ironically I was just recently asked to organize an ice dive for a homocide weapon, but (luckily) the weapon just was just found nearby the pond.

This tragedy serves as a stark reminder that any of the jobs/tasks that we dedicate ourselves to can one day be our last. God bless Sgt. Arner for his ultimate sacrifice and my prayers are with his family, friends and fellow officers.

Sgt. Scott Arner was a great Deputy and a friend. I will miss him more than I will ever be able to express here. The first time I worked with Sgt. Arner was after an armed robbery, about seven or eight years ago. Sgt. Arner was on duty, in Jasper County, which is about 14 miles north of Neosho. He was kind enough to respond to the scene for a manhunt, because our local canine officers were not available. Not only did Sgt. Arner and his partner Dunja (spelling) track the exact route of the suspects, which was more than a half mile, he stayed on scene to assist us for more than an hour. His assistance led to the eventual clearance of this robbery.

After the night of the robbery, I worked with Sgt. Arner on many occassions. My wife is a Deputy at Jasper County and through her, I got to know more about Scott. He was a great man. He was always smiling and enjoying life. He loved his family very much. There was never a time I spoke with him at any length in which he did not mention his daughter. He loved her more than life itself. Pray for the family, pray for the Jasper County Sheriff's Department, and pray for America, because we have lost one of the finest law enforcement officers ever. May God be with Sgt. Scott Arner.
