Reflections for Police Officer Domenick J. Infantes, Jr.

May god be with you, your family and your fellow Officers. Rest in peace Officer Infantes Jr. we will remember you.

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police,
who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises
of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional
eyes on your earthly force. Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgement. Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations. You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the
devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.
And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your
heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people. Amen.

Officer Dominick Infantes death, like that of so many of our other fallen brothers & sisters in law enforcement, was a result of his intervention in trying to prevent injury to another person. As was read during his funeral service: "NO GREATER LOVE HAS A MAN THAN TO LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR A FRIEND". Dominick embodied the best of us all in the JCPD. He will be missed. His funeral service was attended by hundreds of fellow officers from departments as far away as California & Ireland. A fitting tribute to a fine officer, a loving family man, & a hell of a nice guy. Thanks for the time you gave us, Dom. Rest in Peace.

SGT. Bill Halligan
JERSEY CITY POLICE DEPT.

I had the priveledge of working with Dominick in the East District Housing Unit for 3 years. He was a good friend and a good cop, Dominick always went out of his way for others who were less fortunate. On Halloween, he gave out candy to all the kids in the housing sites. At Christmas time, he would put on the Santa suit and give out toys to all the kids. Dominick was truly a man who had a heart of gold, and he will be deeply missed. I send my condolences to his wife Betty and the Infantes family, and may they find the strength to get them through this time of sorrow. I will miss you Dominick, and I will see you again on the other side. Rest in peace brother.

On July 6, you were transferred to the Last Precinct, but have no fear of this new place. There are already several Jersey City Police Officers that have unfortunately came before you & hopefully there will be none after.
Rest in Peace, my friend

Your death hits so close to home, reminding me that everytime my husband leaves for work he may not return. My heart goes out to your wife, family, and loved ones left behind. I hope this poem can offer some comfort at the really lonely times...
"Do not stand at my grave and weep,
"I am not there, I do not sleep.
"I am a thousand winds that blow;
"I am the diamond glints on snow.
"I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
"I am the gentle autumn's rain.
"When you awaken in the morning's hush,
"I am the swift uplifting rush
"Of quiet birds in circled flight.
"I am the soft star that shines at night.
"Do not stand at my grave and cry.
"I am not there;I did not die.

Domenick you will live in the memories of all of us. The assault you stopped prevented the death of a neighbor. The eyes you donated give sight to a stranger, your heart gives life to yet another.

In the words of Capt. John Miller, in Saving Private Ryan, (I hope those you sacrified for)"Earn it."

We the residents of Hamilton Park had the honor of Patrolman Infantes assigned to our neighborhood.
He was known as Officer Dom. When was the last time you watched kids in an Urban area see a cop and run UP TO them and say Hi? He had that kind of relationship with everyone.
Dom had the ability TO talk to people not At people.....what a great quality!

To his family,I thank you for sharing your son, husband and brother with us .You all are in our prayers.
To Dom, I will miss your smile and your sense of humor and I promise when we meet again and I come thru those pearly gates the dog will be on a leash!

Rest in peace..

DOMENICK, ALTHOUGH I DID NOT KNOW YOU PERSONALLY. I'VE COME TO KNOW THE TYPE OF MAN, POLICE OFFICER, HUSBAND AND BROTHER YOU WERE, JUST BY THE KINDS WORDS SPOKEN OF YOU WEDNESDAY. I WISH THE BEST FOR YOUR FAMILY IN THEIR TIME OF SORROW AND THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOUR BROTHER WHO HOPES TO FOLLOW IN YOUR FOOT STEPS AND JOIN THE JERSEY CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT. HOLD YOUR HEAD HIGH BROTHER, AS YOU WILL NOW PATROL GODS STREETS, GODBLESS!

CPL. RODNEY J. SAWYER

Dominick Infantes was a well respected, dedicated professional who gave the supreme sacrifice on July 6, 2001. He was a caring person who gave to the less fortunate people in life, such as the needy around the holiday season. He would go out of his way to help the homeless whenever he could. Dominick was also a volunteer with the local Juvenile Court Mentoring Program to keep teenagers away from the less desirable conditions of life. As one police official stated " Dominick was the epitome of what every police officer should be . " That statement alone should speak about the character of Dominick Infantes.

Although I only had the opportunity to know Dominick for 7 years, I cherish the the working relationship we had and will miss his presence.

May He Rest in Peace!

EVERY TIME I REFLECT ON MY FRIEND AND BROTHER OFFICER DOMINICK, I CAN ONLY REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES WE SHARED BOTH IN THE ACADEMY AND DURING OUR 7 YEAR CAREER TOGETHER. I AM SURE, BY DOMINICK'S NATURE, HE WOULD WANT EVERYONE TO DO THE SAME. MY ONLY REGRET IS THAT A GOOD NATURED MAN SUCH AS HE, NEVER GOT WHAT HE TRULY DESERVED IN LIFE, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN TO ENJOY HIS RETIREMENT HAVING HELPED AND TOUCHED SO MANY. BUT UNFORTUNATELY, LIKE SO OTHER GOOD MEN THAT HAVE PASSED TOO SOON AND BEFORE THEIR TIME, I CANT HELP BUT ALSO FEEL THAT MY FRIEND WAS CHEATED OF HIS JUST REWARDS. I WILL MISS YOU DOM, BUT YOU HAVE MY PROMISE THAT I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU AND LOOK FORWARD TO GOOD TIMES AHEAD WHICH WE WILL SHARE IN THE AFTER LIFE.

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot at other jobs
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

So, if you've a place for me,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I’ve neither expected nor had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

God bless the Infantes family. Your loss is felt by all in Law Enforcement.

It`s not just how Dominick died that made him a hero
It`s how he lived his life.

To all of the Infantes family, and his Police family
Our prayers go out to you all.

Rest in peace Dom.
Hamilton Park has lost a wonderful Cop.
You are going to be a tough act to follow...

I didn't know Officer Infante personally, but I know and am friends with many others. Alot of people like to lump cops together, and they are right. For the most part these men and women do a job we couldn't and we wouldn't. It seems all they ask for these days is a liitle repect.

Unfortunately parents don't teach kids to respect the police and they don't do it themselves.

Officer Infantes thank you for caring about your comminity. Thank you for getting involved. Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice.

As you look down on your brother and sister officers, ask God to watch out for them. If all that I have read about you is even half true, you were called home so God could have another saint to look after the police.

God Bless you and all the officers.

Frank Scott-Citizen

You are not forgotten! We will continue to do the job in your honor and in memory of you and all who laid down their lives so that we could live in a civilized society. We are stronger because of you. Rest in peace.
