Master Police Officer Tyrrell Owens-Riley suffered a fatal heart attack while participating in the physical fitness training portion of the department's SWAT Team assessment.
He was transported to Providence Hospital after exhibiting symptoms of a heart attack. Once at the hospital he suffered cardiac arrest and could not be revived.
Officer Owens-Riley was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He had served with the Columbia Police Department for over seven years and was assigned to the Metro Region.
