Papaw,
All I have are stories. I was too young when you died to have my own memories of you. Not a day goes by that I don't wish that we all had had more time with you. Thank you for your love and sacrifices. Our family lost a huge part of our lives with your passing. I love you.

The Sheriffs of Florida and their deputies will never forget the sacrifice you and your family made to uphold our laws and protect society.

Your name has been inscribed on the Florida Sheriffs and the National Law Enforcement Memorial and in our hearts. May you forever rest in peace.

A scripture inscribed on the Florida Sheriffs Law Enforcement Memorial:

"Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called the children
of God." Matthew 5:9

Uncle Joe,
I use your ODMP page as well as my fallen friend Stephan Grays page as an example to Criminal Justice students to show how brave you both were and how time doesn't cause us to forget. I am hoping to be there for the memorial next year. Never forgotten

Your killer has completed his life sentence on earth and now has gone to begin his eternal sentence. Your story lives on in our family through the stories your friends and family still care enough to tell. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. I am committed to ensuring that justice is served in every case I prosecute and doing everything that I can to make sure that another officer doesn't suffer the same fate, but will continue to pay tribute to your fallen brothers and sisters until that day arrives. Rest in Peace Uncle Joe.
