Brother, you are now in a special place where all the fish are "hogs". I would have given anything to have accompanied you that fateful night. Please catch and release for me. I will be there soon.

Bobby my friend, I was thinking about you today as I have often since your passing too long ago. I remember you as a down to earth, honest, strong, well meaning, fun to be around friend. Our first job at the food center when we were 16 was great fun, and I'll never forget the first time I saw you in the Winston-Salem Police uniform...Strong, handsome, and without a doubt, an officer who could be counted on when needed. Thanks for the Siberian Husky. My best to your family, and like so many others, I'll never forget you.

Your heroism and service is honored today as we approach the 16th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was shot twice when ambushed on April 23rd when he was on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, 16 years after you were killed.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

I am Bobby Beane's distant relative from Rockingham. I can remember my mother, her sisters, and my grandparents going to Winston-Salem for the funeral as a small child. I could never understand why God takes people who are in the line of duty, but they say God calls the best home first. Today, I hold his daughter dear to my heart, as there is nothing compared to the relationship a daughter has with her daddy. May God continue to heal your broken hearts and soothe your aching souls... I can only pray that you will all get to Heaven and meet Bobby at the pearly white gates.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Hey Bobby...just wanted to drop by. With all the recent police murders here in NC, it made me think of you. I didn't know you that well, but your reputation spoke volumns about you. You were a Cop's cop...a good role model. Its a shame you were never promoted....you certainly should have been. Most of us knew that you ran the squads anyway. Take care and watch over us from above.

To Adam, Stacey and Lydia, just know that we haven't forgotten you either. You're still family.

To the family and friends of Officer Beane and his fellow officers, and most especially to Officer Bobby Beane:

On behalf of our entire family, we extend our sincerest condolences for the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Beane was brutally murdered twelve years ago. His bravery and dedication are not forgotten.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the sixteen years of service Officer Beane gave to his community, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 23, 1993.

Bobby,
I'm sure you and Daddy are having a grand time catching up on old times and talking shop. You both loved Law Enforcement and those of us left behind have the comfort of knowing you both loved the Lord as well. I remember you teaching my preschool class at church. I'm sure you know that your family has gone on with their lives (and you'd be proud!) but you are not forgotten. Lydia was at the NC Law Enforcement Memorial service this past May, to pay respects to you and Daddy. May you rest in peace until we all get to Heaven. God bless you, and thanks for all you did.

I stop by this website often after the death of two dear friends with the NCSHP (Troopers Calvin Taylor E.O.W. October 3, 2001 and Anthony Cogdill E.O.W. May 30, 2003).

We all grieve over the lives lost in the line of duty. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that there are countless prayers that go out for your family.

These are senseless tragedies that never seem to stop. God Bless the men and women who continue to serve their communities in our great Nation.
