Officer Ortiz, You will be missed and as a former CHP Motor officer I understand the pride you had to perform the hardest job on the Highway patrol. I was driving in L.A. when I heard of your accident. I have prayed almost daily for your recovery. I guess the Lord needed another fine man to guard his heavens and provide the angels with a fine motor officer.God Bless and keep you always in the hearts and minds of all present, past and future Blue and Gold officers serving the greatest state and the proudest officers in the nation.
Semper Fi and we will all be riding together someday...

For Officer Philip Ortiz:

The duty of a motor officer is performed with the added risk of less protection on the highway than those officers who patrol on four wheels. The pride of the motor unit is well-known throughout the nation and, as with any law officer who dies performing his duty, we are saddened that Phil had to be involved in a horrendous crash by what appears to be negligence by a passing motorist. We rely upon a thorough investigation and a just disposition for Phil.

We pray for Phil's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.

I am proud to render Officer Philip Ortiz a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennylvania State Police

Never forget that he was a true "HERO", sacrificing self to "serve and protect" others. I am a survivor, as you will be also. God, in His infinite mercy, has his arms outstretched and will pick you up when you don't have the strength to take the next breath or the next step. I promise you He is there, even on the darkest of days. My spouse was in a coma for 33 months and 3 days post injury before succombing to another heart attack. Sometimes God had to scrape ME up off the floor, but HE DID! We also had a 13 yr. old daughter.

Remember that strangers like me will be praying for you in the months and years to come. The pain may never go away, but I hope you will find peace.

spouse of ATSAIC Chris Smith, US Secret Service

For Phil's Family - During my 24 year tenure as a CHP officer, I had the privilege to cross paths with Phil. He was my weapons and officer safety instructor at the West Los Angeles office. Predictably consistent in his personality, you could depend upon Phil to be even-tempered and good natured. As a selfless warrior, Phil put his co-workers s first and was a good listener. He was always very proud to be with his wife at the West Los Angeles Christmas parties. I thank God for the opportunity and privilege to spend time with Phil.

Sublette County Sheriff's Office, WY

On Behalf of the family of Officer Steve Gajda, I would like to offer our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family and brother officers of Philip Ortiz. Watching the news that morning was extremely difficult for me. When I heard the reporter say the parents were being flown to the hospital via helicopter I knew it was critical. It took me back to that painful day when my son was shot. I truly feel your pain and pray that God gives you the strength to make it through the rough road ahead. Just always remember, you're not alone and Officer Philip Ortiz will never be forgotten...God Bless you all and Officer Ortiz, rest in peace.
