Your heroism and service is honored today, the 16th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for solace for all those who love and miss you for I know the pain and pride are forever.

16 years today. You have been gone twice as long as I had the privilege of knowing you. It is said everything happen for a reason. I have not recognized that reason as yet. Toney and I keep up the good fight. Continue to stand guard over us.
Love you bro and until that day we meet again.

Hey Daddy,
I know I never got hte chance to know you. But I miss you. I can't believe it took me 15 years to find this. Funny huh? Well... I think about you alot. My friends mom knew you. I never knew that when I met her. Small world isn't it? Wish I could talk to you... it's saddening being the only person in the family to not know you personally and listen to all of the stories they have... I need to come see you again... I love you.

Officer Cash,

In a week it will be fifteen years since your watch ended. You are remembered daily by members of this department; the ones who served with you as well as those of us who have come after. We all think of you often and pray for your family. A trooper died tonight. Please give him a pat on the back for all of us still patrolling and tell him we are proud to be his brothers and sisters. We'll see you at the end of the watch.

Rick,
Hey man, it's been a while for us, huh? I finally made it to your marker last year, on the thirteenth anniversary of getting the "officer down" call at station 1. I lit the candle on your marker, and stood there shivering in the fog at 0130 on 03JAN2009. It was quiet ... hardly any traffic ...... and remembered ... rolling up in the 2nd med unit ... Sgt. Scott being tended to - sitting up, which was a good sign ... wondering where the second officer was ... you know, for years I wondered why God decided I would be the one to find you ... for the longest I thought it was punishment ... taking you on one last Code 3 run through Forest Park ... not sure you would have approved of our speed ... the officers come out of the woodwork - FP, Jonesboro, Clayton County, GSP ... blocking pretty much every intersection to Southern Regional ... praying no one pulled out in front of us ... the cab flexing above my head from the wind ... I was selfish that night, Ricky ... I asked God to please not let me know who the officer in the back was ... got my answer looking at your severed sweater vest on the ER floor ... it crushed me, Ricky ... I don't know how else to explain the anguish ... I just couldn't understand how someone could take you away from us ... how civilians would never know the everlasting ripples that night caused ............ we left Forest Park a few weeks later ... I resigned from there and as a Fulton County Reserve Deputy, not sure I ever wanted to be in public safety again. I have two beautiful kids now, and I'm sure you are watching over us. I'm an officer in the Army, serving in the medical field, but there are days when I wish I could still wave at you driving past the station, knowing you were still on patrol... no matter where life takes me, every 03JAN I will stop and remember you ...... RIP, Bro...... OUT.........

January came and went and we took a moment on THAT day to remember you. Capt. stated that you patroled now with a higher power. I think it would have been okay to say you are with God and Heaven is a better place because of it. It has been a year since I was assigned to Charlie team. The things I have seen and learn have been incredible. But the one thing I see everyday is the memorial for you at College and Jonesboro. I have been in that house and stood on the ground where you were. I will never forget to serve with honor (as you did) to be ever vigilant (as you were) and to leave a legacy of greatness (as you have). Ricky thank you for the example and standard you set before us. REST well C32 this is C28...out

Ricky,
I have thought of you often Ricky. I know you remember me from Church. I used to think you were one of nicest young man I knew. You were also really good in sports. I remember seeing you in court in Clayton County when I was a probation officer and you always had such a strong presence , very professional and always friendly. You represented us well. Im now at the academy and Lt. is having us do a paper on you guys. I could not help but come here. You were one fine officer and I know God has reasons for the bad things that happen. You will always be remembered by me as I do my tour of duty. I know your grandmother Vera was so very proud of you. I would love to see your kids and wife again. I saw them at your funeral. I shed a tear for you today Ricky. Guard those gates Ricky.

It has been a long time but I have never forgot your kindness. When working at the Shoney's you and many others of the FPPD worked security there at night always making me feel safe. You were not only a protector of many but a great friend. I'm sitting here watching cops and I thought of you and I remember the time you help my roommates and I move and cops was on the television and Josh was singing the theme song and all we could do was grin. You were a great hero and will always remain a hero. To the other heros out there ( Officers Scott, Morgan and L.A to name a few) stay safe out there especially if you are still on the job and even if you are not.

Sir,

Our graduation was Thursday night. I know we'll make Forest Park proud; Lt. Nelson kept a close eye on us throughout academy. He was present at our graduation, of course, and I know you were there, too, in spirit, and I believe you'll watch over us as we hit the road. We have 2 recruits that started this morning and the other 3 of us begin FTO tomorrow. I will always keep you in my mind as I go about my duties and remember your bravery and sacrifice.

March 22, 2009

Sir,

I've heard so much about you since my best friend started working in the department, and now here I am, at the academy. I hope and pray every day that I will have the courage and heart to stand like you did if I am ever in that position. My thought and prayers go out to your family. I know that Marines believe that when they die, they guard the gates of heaven, and I believe that they are accompanied by our brothers and sisters in blue, as well. I know one day you'll greet your loved ones with open arms. Everyone at the department speaks so highly of you. I hope I can also become an exemplary officer. Rest in peace, your duty is done.

Well Rick, Its been a dozen years. Wow. I got into a shootout the same year you were murdered. I always felt that you were there knocking bullets away from me, keeping me safe. I've been by the scene of your murder countless times over the years and I keep the pictures close.
Man did Toney, you and I have some times. Who would have thought we all would end up being the police. Espically with those days of listening to NWA.
I have left East Point and gone to Fairburn. My son Toney graduates this year and I have 2 other girls behind him.
I haven't seen anyone in your family for a decade it seems.
Keep a watch over me please. I miss you. One day Toney, you and I will ride together again.

"Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premisesof all its undesirables, look with kindly and professionaleyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgment.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people. Amen. "

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Ricky,

There are so many things I wish I could tell you! I'll start with Josh. He is 16 now and I know you would be so proud of him. He just got his first truck today. The look on his face was priceless and it reminded me so much of you! Everything about him is just like you in so many ways...his smile, in fact his whole face, he could be your twin but his eyes are mine, his chuckle, his smelly feet and popping ankles...his kind hearted soul. He is a beast on the football and baseball fields. His favorite sport just depends on the season. He is very close to his Cash family. I made sure of that. God Ricky, he's just like you. He is so proud of you. He really enjoys meeting your old friends and people that knew you. He remembers you as the most awesome daddy (because you were) but when he meets these people that knew you or worked with you he gets to know what kind of man you were. Every day he becomes more and more like you and that makes me proud. I thank God for him every day but I still can't stop asking God why he took you away from him. Why did he take you away from all of us? I'm doing the best I can for him, Ricky. I love him so much sometimes I think my heart is going to bust. I love you, too. I always did and I always will.
