Lieutenant Texas Minter was killed as he drove to work on building the town's animal shelter.
The patrol car Lieutenant Minter was driving slid on the icy pavement at the Grand Trunk Railroad Crossing at Colfax Street and was struck by an approaching train at 9:00 a.m.
Lieutenant Minter had served with the Griffith Police Department for seven years. He was survived by his wife.
