Add to My HeroesRoland Edgar "Skip" Chevalier, Jr.
Trooper Roland Chevalier was shot and killed after intervening in a domestic dispute at the Cleary Summit Ski Area.
The father involved in the dispute was drunk and was trying to kill his mentally-ill son. Trooper Chevalier, who was inside the lodge, heard gunshots and immediately went outside to investigate. As he approached the son, he was shot in the heart with a .30-.06.
The son was acquitted of murder charges after arguing that he accidentally shot Trooper Chevalier while attempting to defend himself against his father. The father was found guilty of attempted murder.
Trooper Chevalier had served with the Alaska State Troopers for six years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, and son.
