Reflections for Police Officer James Michael O'Connor

You have not been forgotten. Your name now appears on the new and beautiful Chicago PD Memorial behind Soldiers Field. You are a true hero. I have met your brother and he has helped my family and I thank him for that.

Jimmy,
It's St. Patrick's Day and I thought of you. You were one of my first friends when I moved to Chicago and you are very missed by so many. I feel like I am a better person for having known you and your death was a huge loss for so many. Memories of the Cantina days and football games are embedded in my brain. You are truly missed.

A decade has passed and you have not been forgotten, nor will you ever be. Keep watch over your family and protect them, and the officers still out on patrol on the streets of Chicago and across this nation. You are a true hero.

Retired Police Officer.

Jim,

We never met. At the time you were unfortunantely killed I was serving with 2/24 Marines out of Chicago. A CPD officer I was serving with, Dominick Kearns, asked me if I would be in a color guard at your "officer of the year" ceremony for the Emerald Society. It was a posthumous award. I was honored to do so. I am visting this odmp site because I lost a former partner of mine, Jon Walsh, EOW 08/20/2004, killed in a car accident responding to a burglar alarm. DJ Kearns came to his funeral. I feel terrible for your family's loss. Other than Jon, you are the only other police officer I remotely know that died in the line of duty. Time doesn't heal, I don't think anything does. Please keep an eye out for my old partner. Thank you for your sacrifice.......

Jimmy, I think about you every day. Sometimes when I get drunk. I cry. No one really understands. And I don't care if they don't. Hopefully nothing ever happens to them. Ten years this year. I just ran the Run to Remember last sat. with my wife. I wore your dog tags. I wish I could have run it with you. Your death was not the only reason people had to say you were a good guy. The people you left behind are a true tribute to the person you were. Thanks for everything Fat Ass.
Hopefully no one gets offended. But if you knew you (Jimmy). They know you wouldn't mind.
Forever my partner, Love Patrick

God truly has sent angels to serve and protect those who seek peace as jesus did. Officer O'connor gave his life for a stranger. James is a true hero and now sits at the right hand of our lord in heaven. I did not know you my brother in blue, but you are in my prayers each day I hit the streets to rid society of evil doers. Your family MUST be as proud as they could be. My heart goes out to them all. Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. You were obviously "as tough as they get".
