It has been 16 years since your ultimate sacrifice but it will never be forgotten. Your prompt action while off-dutyn is a true indication of your professionalism.

16 years ago today you were taken from the world. Not one day goes by where I do not think of you. I went to the place your life was taken and left balloons and flowers. I'm the luckiest girl though knowing that I have you as my guardian angel. I miss you more than you will ever know and so does everyone else. I love you Uncle Jimmy you will always be my angel<3 I love you<3

On September 16th 1995 Chicago lost a hero and i lost my uncle but on September 16th 1995 I also gained a guradian angel.

Some days are alot darker than others but I know that no matter what I'll have you protecting me from the rain. I graduated High School and I'm planning my future. I know that I won't always succeed but I will always have my guardian angel to follow me and help light the way. I love you Uncle Jimmy and I'll come visit you soon. I'll see you in heaven one day with your arms wide open<3

Hey Jimmy...It's Mac..I can't believe it's been almost been 15 yrs since I got "that call" from Jimmy Grasz. Not a day goes by Jimmy where my mind doesn't wander and I think about the good ole days with you, me, Jimmy Grasz and Trieb. Anyway Jimmy you have a new friend up there in Heaven with you..My dad passed away about a month ago and it gives me comfort knowing that he's resting in eternity with one of my best friends, he always got a good laugh whenever you stopped by the house..! Say hi to the Reddog for me Jimmy and tell him we miss him every day as we all miss you!!!!!!!

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Jim,
I met you shortly after I was assigned as the Commander of the 23rd. District. You were just off probation, and an exemplary and professional police officer. You had the desire to help others, and not look the other way when there was trouble. You made the ultimat sacrifice to protect our city from those cowards who use force to take what they are not willing to work for. I got to know your Mom and Dad after your death, and have high regard and respect for them. I learned from them what an outstanding and dedicated Son you were. Parents were never meant to bury their children, and old policemen were never meant to bury the younger ones. I thanked you parents for loaning you to us. Thank you for your sacrifice.
