Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Patrol Officer William Rayvon Gilmore, Jr.

January 30, 2007 marks a sobering anniversary for the Clayton Police Department. It was 25 years ago when Officer Ray Gilmore was shot and killed after he and his partner responded to a call of a large disorderly group playing loud music. After clearing the group, Officer Gilmore was sitting in his patrol car completing a report when a man approached the vehicle and shot Officer Gilmore in the face, killing him.

Ray was the finest example of a law enforcement officer and a young man of remarkable courage and strength of character. His loss was deeply felt by all who knew him. He will never be forgotten. We must honor and remember our fallen heroes who serve others at all costs.

YOU DIED A HEROES DEATH BY A COWARD RIP BRO

BLUE BLOOD

January 23, 2007

I just saw your reflection & realized that you deserved more reflections....

You died a horrible death at the hands of a complete coward. I lost an academy classmate under very similar circumstances in the past, and it sickens me that a "person" can do this to another.

I hope that your family has overcome their grief after all these years. Since you were so young when you were killed, I doubt that your child is able to directly remember the sacrifice that you made. However, I'm confident that your wife held your memory and honor on a high plateau for them.

Your brothers in arms will continue our hopeless fight....Thank you for your service.

Salute.

I currently live in Clayton, North Carolina. I wasn't here when Officer Gilmore died. But I do know from my experience of having lived here the last few years that the Clayton Police Force is awesome and that all of it's officers are top-notch individuals ready to protect and serve when needed, anytime and any place. So I know that Officer Gilmore must have been a top notch individual also, not only in his duty as Police Officer, but also off duty in his personal time. May God continue to bless his family and all his friends that loved him and miss him so much still to this day.

Officer Gilmore,

Through a friend of yours and the Clayton PD, I have learned a bit about you. Even after twenty years, they all still remember, as of course they would. You are spoken of fondly, and you are missed. Hearing such nice things about you, I am just sorry I never got to meet you.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice as a LEO. Rest in peace.
