I played with Dan in AAA while we were in the Padres organization. Dan later chose to become a police officer, as did I. I recently saw him at a Padres reunion for major league players last year. He was always known as a tough individual, proof positive that he survived his devastating injury. He will be missed.

On behalf of the Klamath County Sheriff's Office in Klamath Falls Oregon, we send our sincerest sympathy in the recent loss of your Officer, Dan Walters, from complications from an injury which occurred on November 12, 2003. It is always a huge loss when a fellow officer makes the ultimate sacrifice or from any long term injuries. His bravery and courage to protect and serve your community has not gone unnoticed. The true measure of a person
is not found in the
might of their arm,
their wealth
or their power –
it is found in the strength
of their character.

There is no greater testimony to
ones character, than ones
willingness to sacrifice all,
in the noble quest of
providing protection to all
whom they serve.

Finally at peace. Dan endured so much over these last 16 1/2 years, injuries inflicted by the hands of a coward.... unimaginable physical and mental pain, the senseless murder of his closest friend in 2010, SDPD Officer Chris Wilson and the daily struggle of trying to find sense of it all. I am so saddened for him to have had to live through all that, and will forever value the time we spent together over the years. You will never be forgotten Dano, rest easy now. Always, Linda SDPD #4357
