Chief, you will be missed.

I remember you giving me a shot at Marlin PD right out of the academy in '05, chuckling the entire time during the interview. You took the chance on me, and I will forever be indebted.

I remember you asking me if I could fight during my hiring interview, and if I couldn't, I would learn to or get beat up.

I remember you telling me education was important in law enforcement, regardless of your posistion. I remember you telling me to always work hard, and to give 100%, because people will always remember you, and that my reputation in this job is important. I still haven't forgotten that.

I remember the long off duty gigs at the (fight) club Azabachi in Killeen, and the long drives back to Marlin for work in the morning.

I'll remember all the days you tried to get Ryan Curry and I to go with you to the Boiling Pot to eat the mix of whatever bunch of animals they caught and put in that pot. Churches Chicken is what we chose everytime Lol.

But what I will remember the most as I stood in your office, right after telling you I was leaving for the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office, is that I will go far in law enforcement, and you appreciated the hard work and the time I spent with you there. I know youll be watching over us as we push on. You will never be forgotten.

God speed.

God, filled with mercy, dwelling in the heavens' heights,
bring proper rest beneath the wings of your Lord,
amid the ranks of the holy and the pure,
illuminating like the brilliance of the skies the soul of Darrell Allen who went to his eternal place of rest.
May You who are the source of mercy shelter him beneath Your wings eternally,
and bind his soul among the living, that he may rest in peace. And let us say: Amen.
