An Angel In The Sky Must Leave His Place Of Rest,
Gently Tucking His Wings Beneath His Armored Vest.
For Duty Has Called, There Is Much Work To Do
Little Did He Know, This One Is Dressed In Blue.
Arriving On The Scene, He Knows Just What To Say,
Follow Me, Fallen Brother, I'll Show You The Way.
Your Duty Has Ended, Your Work Is Now Through.
Come Hand Your Hat Beside Mine. I'm A Cop, Too.

On behalf of the Westerville, Ohio Division of Police, our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Trooper Nathan-Michael Smith and the extended law enforcement family of the Virginia State Police. Rest in Peace brother and watch over us.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

My Brother, rest in Paradise knowing that you were rushing to aid a fallen comrade! Yes, we know the radio traffic got screwed up, but you were rushing to help a brother you believed to be down. We lay our lives on the line everyday for each other and we wouldn't change a thing except this horrible outcome. May God surround your families, blue and blood, with Angels to watch over them and comfort them until you are all reunited.

This is so sad and tragic. Trooper Smith was trying his best to help what he thought was a fellow officer in need, and I'm sure the adrenaline rush he was dealing with contributed to his accident. He died trying to do the right thing, and honor his oath and his profession. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and fellow officers. RIP Trooper Smith.
