Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Danny Paul Oliver

As the daughter of a Fallen Officer - my heart goes out to Deputy Oliver's girls - My Dad has been gone for over 10 years and I still find days where I fall apart and miss him terribly. Your Dad will always be with you - always remember his laugh and what made him happy. Never forget the best times you had with him. Time will not heal, but it will ease the pain. Make your Dad proud and live your life to the fullest. My heart is with you - Our Dads' are now together and someday we will all be together again. Until then, I hope some type of peace finds your soul - Take care of your Mom - Sending lots of love to you all.

I have laid down my life in service to all of you.
I have been a part of the fabric that has held the line between your safety and your victimization. I have given my life so that others may live in peace. I have lived my life as a dedicated member of the greatest profession. There is no greater honor.

As I now become a part of the rich history of law enforcement, please remember me always for I have left behind those who loved and depended upon me.
My partners and my agency, please remember my family, their loss, and don’t let time soften your compassion for them.

You guard the gate now and I will continue my watch from above.

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND MAY YOUR FAMILY FIND COMFORT IN THE GOOD YOU HAVE DONE HERE ON EARTH.

To the family, friends and co-workers of Deputy Danny Oliver:

We wish to give our deepest condolences to the warrior who spent every day and night of the last 15 years not knowing if it would be his last. He, a rare man, courageously gave his life in defense of his principles.

You were the partner of our RTO's husband and worked with our cadet's neighbor. We are all connected by degrees, but the tangible (and yet ethereal) "Badge", the thin blue line, connects your sacrifice to all of law enforcement, present and future.

Having lost a partner and close friend to a shooting during a search warrant many years ago, I know what your family is going through. May you rest in peace and my thoughts and prayers to your family.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

A Part of America Died

Somebody killed a policeman today
And a part of America died…
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield, too,
Just as if he had gone off to war;
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast
To his name they will add a gold star.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long, lonely nights.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today…
Maybe in your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side;
He answered the call… of himself gave his all,
And a part of America died…

To Danny's family, fellow deputies, and all who call Danny beloved, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

I mourn the loss of every fallen officer, but when I heard about your murder and Deputy Davis' murder, it affected me profoundly. I was at a 4H Camp in Arkansas to participate in the annual Parents Retreat for our nation's parents of fallen officers. We had a minute of silence and prayers for our two Northern California deputies, and our hearts were very heavy with grief.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Deputy Oliver gave to his community and the citizens of California , and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 24, 2014.

Such a tragic end to such giving officers. God doesn't sleep nor slumber and justice will come swift to those who have harmed you. Your sacrifice was so great, it cannot be measured to any award or accomplishment ever received by anyone. The love of an officer for his fellow man, his community, his family and friends is what drives him to face such dangers everyday. You're blessed by the spirit of goodness. May God forever hold you close and give you eternal rest.
