Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Danny Paul Oliver

Rest in Peace my brother in blue. Evil will never prosper as long as brave men such as yourself stand for good.

I hope in time your family and agency find peace in your passing.

I am writing to express my great sorrow for the loss of Deputy Sheriff Danny Oliver. Deputy Oliver was killed honorably in the line of duty. The San Pablo Police Department and I are grateful to Deputy Oliver's family for his years of service and for his ultimate sacrifice. The death of an officer is always a great tragedy.

Thank you so much Officer Oliver and all of you brave men and women in law enforcement that go to work each day to protect and serve. While the precious gift of our 'civilian freedom' is most often associated with our brave men and women of the armed forces, I also understand and appreciate that the daily protection of my personal ability to enjoy that freedom resides with those that pledge their lives to uphold our laws. I can't thank you enough and I wish this kind of heroic act that many of you do without a second thought got as much attention as stories of 'enforcement gone wrong' manufactured by half-truths and sound-bites.

As a former resident of Auburn,Ca. area of 28 years I am touched perhaps a bit deeper to the loss of two Officers and the injuries of two more in the region.
Ever vigilant and very professional are both agencys of Sacramento and Placer County. Yet we never know when a terrible evil comes to our communities until it is sometimes too late at the expense of ( in this case ) two fine officers.
Thankfully the coordination of all agencys & officers in the entire region captured these two particularly dangerous and murderous criminals before anymore innocent victims were injured or officers were lost.
My deepest sympathy to both families for their loss, a speedy healing to those effected, injured or traumatized.
May we all be evermore vigilant in these worst of times where life is so precious yet a small but seemingly growing number of criminal elements take exterme chances even end lives of or countries most honorable citizens. The members of all Law enforcment agencys in our beautiful & wonderful America.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

On behalf of the Westerville, Ohio Division of Police, our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of Deputy Sheriff Danny Oliver and the extended law enforcement family Sacramento County, California Sheriff's Department. Rest in Peace brother and watch over us.

I fight not for glory or fame, for they are momentary. I fight for those who can't. I fight for Justice. I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden. And if I should lose my life for these just causes, then I have no regrets, For I serve to protect the innocent. It matters not where or when, for evil knows no boundaries. Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny, I will not flee. Justice is my weapon. Faith is my shield. Hope is my armor. Cry not at my passing, for it was my Honor to fight for you. Shed not tears of sorrow, But tears of joy, for now, I stand with God.

By Jon F. Hooper
