I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place.
As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say “it’s OK, you’re with your eternal partners.”
A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

I never met you that I recall, though I met your father several times. I can't help but think of you and how dangerous our line of work is. I looked at your page and saw a picture of your daughter, nearly the same age as mine. I am sure you never thought that yesterday would be your last day. Now that poor little girl will grow up looking at pictures of her father, and will only find comfort knowing that her father died keeping the world safe from the wolves that stalk the innocent, and trying to keep the highways safe from those that are careless while operating a vehicle. Though the violation you spotted might have only been a seat belt, you died doing your duty, no matter who might disagree with the law, you died upholding it...and for that you are a hero. If I should ever cross paths with your family, I would like them to know that you did not die in vain, you died holding that thin blue line. REQUIESCAT IN PACE BROTHER. Your work is done, your dues have been paid. We will continue to hold the line. To all my surviving fellow officers: Remember Spartans, with your shield or on it.

Cruz,
I got the phone call last night at 2158. When I was told, my stomach sank and I just started crying, hoping that it was not true. I have had the honor of knowing you for over 10 years. You are greatly missed. I want you to know how much you meant to me. I was blessed to have went to school with you, worked with you in 2 different departments and had you as a friend. I love you man and I will never forget you.

You were like a brother to me and I will forever miss you. I was just sitting here looking back at a few pictures remembering those long night shifts that we would roam Jackson County together just looking for "that one more car". I never had to worry about calling for backup, I knew you were coming. There are no words to express my feelings right now, but I will never forget you or our friendship. Rest in peace brother.
