I was viewing the Officer Down Page and was so shocked to see you here. I worked with you from time to time while I was assigned to our Atlanta Office. I can still remember your face and you walking around in the SWAT trailer behind Doraville PD. You have left a lasting impression on those who have met and worked with you. God Bless this family

I was introduced to Shane a couple years ago by my granddaughter, Katy. As they dated, my wife and I had several more occasions to get to know and love him. I have to say that he was always such a gentleman and we grew to love him just as Katy. We attended his wedding in Las Vegas only a couple months ago.

Shane was an awesome police officer and gentleman, who will surely be missed by his fellow police officers in Doraville, Ga. , his family, friends and the community he served.

Now we have to honor him by supporting his wife Katy Darby Wilson. I know I'm not a police officer, but I just had to say what is in my heart. RIP Det. Robert Shane Wilson.

I knew Shane when was about 8 years old and saw him grow up by way of a personal friend of mine. His step-father and wife are personal friends of mine today . I gave Shane his first rifle as a birthday present when he became of age to own one. His step-father has told me of his very accomplishments ever since.

I made Shane his first nametag when he became a law enforcement officer with Doraville Police Department.

Shane will be missed by his new wife, his son, his mother, step-father, father, sister , myself and many, many other officers and friends that he has met over the years.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Rest in Peace Shane...

Shane, I miss you so much. I woke up thinking of you and your family and I lost it... again. You would laugh at how 'bipolar' I have been. I love you Shane... but I know you knew that because every time you would tell me that, I would respond "I love you too Crazy". :) It's been so heart-wrenching knowing you wouldn't be at work and when I heard "409... 10-42", I nearly passed out. Never saw this coming Shane. I know there were people who knew more of you, family who knew you forever and are having the worst time dealing with such a huge lost, that I feel so selfish for grieving so erratically and so excessively...still I feel broken somehow. There were parts of yourself that you shared with me, that I know were just with me and that makes me smile. I feel so selfish and so enraged that you are gone. If nothing else, I know that you know that you are loved. Even as I sit here crying, I know that you know I will never forget you Shane. I will never forget your smile, your laughter or your sarcasm. I definately will not forget your sense of humor. So, always remember "I love you too Crazy"... and rest in peace! My condolences go out to your family and loved ones including your DPD family. I can't imagine the level of pain your mother is going through but she is the most blessed because she has the most memories of you and she's had you the longest. I hope that comforts her one day. I miss you Shane. Your Friend Always, Tracey...

For Detective R. Shane Wilson:

The law officer is at risk both on-duty and off when taking action to keep his jurisdiction safe. We regret learning that our brother Shane has encountered the ill-fate of having his life taken from him while in the process of doing his sworn duty and for the benefit of others. We now rely upon the criminal justice system to bring about a fair disposition in this case.

We pray for Shane's family, friends, co-workers, and all who care about him. May they be ready to support one another in the days ahead.

We are proud to render a salute to Detective R. Shane Wilson, a soldier-of-the-law.

To the family and friends of this officer,
It saddens me to hear about of his passing. We here in my hometown of Grenda, Ms know what all of you are going through right now. We lost a very loved policeman on October 7, 2011. I know that your officer and family member will be truly missed especially with the holidays coming up. It is never easy to loose a loved one but we know that we are a little safer here on earth with all the policemen that we have up there in Heaven watching over us down here. I will certaintly put all of you on my prayer list. May the Lord hold you in his hands during this time in your lives.
