I wish to express my deepest thanks for Evan's service and sacrifice.I will be on my knees this morning praying for you to find first God's comfort, and soon His strength and understanding. On November 29th, 2009..My brother was gunned down along with 3 other officers. I watched that Sunday morning as my teenage niece cried Daddy I cant do this- over and over, my grown nephew go silent for days,my other young nephew go into hysterics dialing his fathers cell phone repeatedly, and my sister collapse on the floor because he was her whole life. Im telling you this so you know you are NOT ALONE now, and to tell you that we ARE making it-even smiling and laughing- though it seemed impossible to fathom back then.
You are going to make it through, too.
It takes time, but mostly what carries us is the search and belief in the promises God made to us. I now can see God's love displayed through my brother's life-and even line of duty death-very clearly. I know you will someday see the same. Evan's life was-and is still-your miracle. Though his life on this earth was stolen away too soon, he died doing his duty-which is what a man of honor would choose. He still watches over you.
Know today that across this country, Evan and all who cared for him are being held up in prayer, reverence and love.
Sincerely, Melanie Burwell
