Reflections for Public Safety Officer Eric Emiliano Zapata

I wish tomorrow was not a reality, I wish a year ago never happened, I wish my friend was still here. We are supposed to be super heroes that never die, only live on in sequel after sequel.

Woke up this morning thinking how my brother Eric always made me laugh. I feel like we had a complete conversation in my sleep last night and for some reason I feel comfort. Thank you God.

EZ,

Time passes on, but you and your family are in our daily thoughts and prayers. It is hard to believe that it is approaching a year since you were taken. There are many small memorials to you: from the bracelets that many people wear, to the stickers on so many cars in the area, and to the memorial that is being planned for you in the downtown mall area. Such small things for the incredible price you and your family paid! There will be a large group of us going to the National Police Week Memorial this year to pay our respects to you and everyone else who has made the ultimate sacrifice.

Keep watching out for us from above. I believe you were with the county deputy who was grazed by a bullet recently and helped keep him safe.

Rest peacefully, EZ. You are always in our hearts.

To the family and friends of Officer Eric Zapata, his fellow officers, and most especially to Eric:

We honor your service to your community as a law enforcement officer and you will always be remembered and revered. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of our entire family, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Eric was killed in the line of duty. It is obvious he was well-loved by many and well-respected by his peers as reflected in the loving reflections left for him.

May his loved ones continued to be supported by their law enforcement family and other police survivors. Our family grieves with you and for you. To Eric's family, you are in my heart's embrace today. To his mom, I share your anquish in losing a beloved child which surely has to be life's greatest sorrow.

Today was your family's first Christmas without you and we are also approaching your eow anniversary date. They are all in my thoughts and prayers during these difficult days.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the years of distinquished service Eric gave to his community and the citizens of our country and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 18, 2011

Hey buddy, 1st big holiday coming up...no one will ever forget your sacrifice...You're a hero Eric when you gave your life to save others. I've recounted our times in the gazebo at Station 7 more times than I care to remember...but remember I do...and I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. Happy Thanksgiving buddy...we'll be saying a prayer at the table for you and your family...and all our brothers and sisters in blue.

Love you buddy,

EZ,

Five months ago today. You and your family haved been in our thoughts and prayers every single day since that horrible night. When I put my son to bed tonight and we said our prayers, he asked me what was wrong. I told him how much it means to me that he prayed for you the night you left us and went to Heaven.

Rest in peace, EZ. We carry on with you in ourt hearts.

Eric We started in this work about the same time, you were my friend, my teacher and my Brother in Arms. We learned a lot from each other. What I learned the most from you was unconditional love for life and to never forget to laugh. (Life is Short) Although your soul moved on in its journey as all of ours will. Your spirt continues to live here in every one of us who knew you, were connected to you and in those who will be sure to learn of you through us.
