O beautiful for heroes prov'd
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life.

America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev'ry gain divine.

Here in Washington State, we've memorialized and bid farewell to 6 such heroes in a matter of weeks...the 6th only yesterday.

And we've witnessed the outpouring of love and support, as well as tears from the community, and from the law enforcement community throughout the nation, and from neighboring countries.

We wish to extend our love, our support and our deepest sympathies to the husband, children, and extended family, friends and colleagues of this latest beloved fallen hero...Deputy Sheriff Josie Greathouse Fox. Rest in peace. You will not be forgotten.

In Sept. I retired after 25 years only to move to a police job at a college Campus...strange how it is so hard to get this job out of your system...and when this happens to a fine officer I never get use to it..and each time I am as sad as the time before...I will think of you Josie and your family. I know the members of your dept...all wish they could have been there to back you up...so do I...

To the family and friends of Deputy Josie Fox and her fellow deputies:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Josie was tragically killed.

To Deputy Fox's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Josie gave to her community and the citizens of Missouri, and for the supreme sacrifice she and her family made on January 5, 2010.
