We have worked together for many years,
It's our voices ringing in your ears.
We try to make those long days brighter,
And hopefully, the load a little lighter.
We send you to the bar-room brawl.
And out in the rain to the nuisance call.
We worry about you day and night.
To make sure every call turns out all right.
We share your sorrows, we share your joys,
That's why we think of you as ... "Our boys."
Then why have we never said to you,
"I'm proud of you ... my friend in blue."

For Deputy Sheriff Roy Bruce Sutton, Jr.:

The call for assistance to a domestic argument usually brings with it heated argument. The chance of violence always exists. An expeditious response is always expected.

Deputy Sutton could have known that his immediate arrival might prevent a violent assault and damage to minds of little ones present. A conscientous deputy, he was enroute to help.

That he would meet his death as traveled closer and faster, as we all have risked - if only just one time, is a fate that no one can ever explain. While many of us were lucky - and spared - Roy was not. Such is our life as a law officer on patrol. We can each count our blessings.

For Roy, his family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him we pray for understanding of what cannot yet be understood. What we do know is that Roy died in the service of others. This alone deems him a hero. For the moment, that will have to do.

For Deputy Sheriff Roy Sutton, I am proud to render a final salute.

Pennylvania State Police
