Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff James W. Anderson

I've never had much of a feeling of closeness with family. I find myself most of these days reflecting on our childhood and most of my memories are bringing me to the conclusion that I did have that closeness with you James. From the time you came into my life, you were always there for and with me. You taught me alot more than I will ever realize and definately more than I ever thanked you for. As kids we had our dissagrements and sometimes as adults we didn't see eye to eye, but you never judged me and you always seemed able to say just what I needed to hear. You were the greatest big brother anyone could ever have had and im greatful that you were mine. You never treated me like a step-brother, more like a blood brother. DNA has no feelings and you touched a place in my heart that NO ONE ever has and no one else ever will. That place in my heart is reserved for you. I will keep you with me ALWAYS. (quack quack) I love you Brother.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace in such incidents & our only real comfort comes from Him. May His strength, comfort & peace continue to be the sustaining force in the lives of all who knew this beloved officer; and may it somehow help to know they do not grieve alone.

So much to say...I met James when I was about 4 years old...he later became my step-brother, and I loved him with all my heart. We were really close during our teenage years, hanging out on the Chattahoocee River. He introduced me to the "wilder" side of life...Rock-N-Roll...and my first "real" boyfriend...his best friend Chris Funderburk. Time and distance may tear people apart...but my brother James...will forever be in my heart. Rest in Peace...All My Love...Sandra Faye

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I only met you in passing, on the road. That does not mattter, you were my brother officer and a fellow member of the Lee County Law Enforcement community. I was honored and humbled to take part in the ceremony to honor your life and your ultimate sacrifice.
I wish to thank Deputy Anderson's wife, children, friends, and family for sharing this very personal and private moment with the many officers and deputies who worked with him. In their time of sorrow and loss, they still gave to aid our law enforcement officers. My prayers are with you.

For Deputy Sheriff James Anderson:

Our duty as law officers entails many risks most of which we can prepare ourselves for response. Never though, can we prepare ourselves for those specifically intent on bringing us harm. Cowards always take full advantage of surprise and never wish to meet others head-on. They strike from the shadows because otherwise they know they will lose.

Our brother Jim is the latest among us who is recognized as yet another soldier-of-the-law that layed down his life rather than swerve from the path of his duty. The scum who ran him down with a vehicle knew that his individual strength would not ever have been enough.

Our thoughts are with Jim's family, friends, co-workers and all those who care about him at this time of sadness and grief.

As a retired PA state trooper and FL deputy sheriff I render Deputy Sheriff James Anderson a final salute.

Day is done
Gone the sun
From the lakes
From the hills
From the sky
All is well
Safely rest
God is nigh

Fading light
Dims the sight
And a star
Gems the sky
Gleaming bright
From afar
Drawing nigh
Falls the night

Thanks and praise
For our days
Neath the sun
Neath the stars
Neath the sky
As we go

Thoughts and Prayers to Deputy Andersons family and co-workers. May Got ease your pain.

"Another One Fell"

Dark glasses can't hide
the tear stained eyes
of the warriors,
these men and women who aren't supposed to cry.

The silver covered
by that thin black line
an all to familiar sight this day
along with the pain that no one can hide.

Taps sounds, the guns go off
it only serves as a reminder
of what we all have lost.
one more deputy gone

But the hurt felt will last so long
for no longer in the streets of hell
a final call is given in honor
to another one that fell.
