To Deputy Chad Mechels, to all family members and friends who call him beloved, and to his law enforcement family:

I was heartbroken to learn of Chad's death and extend my sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered. Words are insufficient to describe the sadness I feel for the Mechels family. May you find comfort in your faith and the support of the law enforcement community.

There are many police survivors who share this same journey with you, and that community will be there to support you. Chad's memory will be forever honored and revered.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Chad gave to his community and the citizens of South Dakota and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 15, 2009.

To not only the immediate family of Deputy Chad Mechels but also to those of us that had Chad as a brother in blue. I konw that the next days weeks and even months will and can be a blur of getting bye. Going through Life Motions with out even remembering having done them. May you all know that Today God cried when his son came home as we left here on earth cried when he left. May you seek comfort in GOd as he carries you for the next steps in your life how ever long it takes for you to be able to walk along with him again. We may never see why God wanted his son to come home to him but in his promise those who believe in him will again be joined with the loved one and family that have went before. Thank you for serving brother Chad and MAY YOU REST IN GODS COMFORT!!!!!!

God Interviews A Cop

The Cop stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, Cop.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you alway turned the other cheek?
To my Church, have you been true?"

The Cop squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
Can't always be a Saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was rough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't...I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne
Where the Saints had often trod.
As the Cop waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.

"Step forward now, Cop,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell.
