I did not know Deputy Sheriff Chad Mechels, but I do know bravery when I see it. I know courage when it reaches my ears. Thank you Deputy for doing what so many could or would not do themselves. Unfortunately, it is with a very sad heart that I have to send out this message. We have lost one of our own. Early Sunday morning, Deputy Chad Mechels of Turner County was shot and killed in the line of duty. Chad came through the 2006 DOT, a member of the blue team. He taught in Lake County, and had only been in Turner County for six months. He ... Read Moreleaves behind his wife of 10 years, Jamie, seven yr old daughter Avery, and 3 yr old son Thomas. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 18 at 1300 at the Prairie Playhouse in Madison. A memorial has been set up to support the family. Contributions can be made at any Wells Fargo statewide to the Chad Mechels Memorial Fund. Please keep the family, co-workers and all the emergency personnel who responded to this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.

No greater love has a man than this...That he lay down his life for his friends." Turner County lost a great friend Sunday. A friend that was willing o lay down his life for their protection and freedom of life. May God bless the family of Deputy Mechels.
