Reflections for Police Officer David Donald Tome

A Salute To My Fallen Brothers

Your watch has ended still your memory lives on
Your life was that of a hero you died but not alone
Cemeteries are full of brothers that left ahead of you
Your death like all the others leaves family members blue

Your presence and the risk you took will be missed the most
To your memory we salute you as together we lift a final toast
Remembering all your courage while serving on your beat
Everyone wearing blue recalls how you wore the uniform so neat

All of us give some yet you gave us your all
We’ll never forget the sacrifice you gave before your final fall
You stayed so focused in the way you served society
Whether patrolling for criminals or drunks for sobriety

We salute you our brother for all you left behind
The many that you led as an officer you were kind
You wore your uniform with awesome courage till the end
We’ll not forget your professional bearing in hearts you tried to mend

A final Salute To You Our Fallen Brother our final cry
We’d give anything to have kept you here instead we bid goodbye
Although you’ve gone away to join heavens gate
Your memory shall live on in our hearts an angel now your fate!

I've had the pleasure of working with Dave since he was hired here at Northern Regional. I knew him to be a really good, hard working officer. I didn't know Dave extremely well personally, because we rarely if ever worked on the same platoon. I do know that anytime we did talk about things other than work, the conversation centered around our families. Dody, Dave loved you so much and he just adored his kids. He was taken way too soon and I only wish I could find the words that would bring you comfort. Going to work in the morning will never be the same. It seemed that more often than not, Dave always had the patrol car that I was assigned to drive the next shift. He never hung his keys on the "keyrack" so I would have to seek him out as he sat in the patrol room finishing up his work. This became a running joke between the two of us. I would get the keys from him and go out to the car. I would load it with my gear and without fail, I would get in and bang my knees on the dash because he never put the seat back. It seemed that every morning I would be sitting in the car rubbing my knees while silently cursing Dave for not putting the seat back and cursing myself for not catching on to it after five years. I never would have guessed I would miss those mornings. It is for this and many other reasons that I will think of Dave every morning as I begin my tour of duty. May God bless you and your children, his extended family and friends. He will never be forgotten at Norhtern Regional.
