I didn't really know Shawn, but I went to school with him at Smoky Mountain High School and saw him around campus. He seemed like he really enjoyed life and was always smiling and full of life, hearing the news about him being killed breaks my heart. Shawn's Family you're in my prayers and I am truly sorry that he is gone and you have my condolences

IN HONOR OF THE FALLEN BADGE
I'm worn upon each and every Officer's Chest
My fellow officer's in sadden times cover me
with the black loop worn in times of their
mourning.
I have seen many happy times in my years
of being worn upon their chest and then
I have seen many sadden times.
My badge of Honor has once again seen another
officer fall.
Oh, I cry for the guidance of my family
in this sadden time. As I'm now walking with
my brothers in blue that have gone before me on the
streets of gold.

I never knew Shawn but this breaks my heart. To be taken from his wife and newborn son, as well as the rest of his family, at such a young age and so senselessly...words just can't describe. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, son and family. Rest in Peace.

There are no words that will remove the pain that engulfs your wife, family, friends, and fellow troopers. Only the passing of time will quiet the pain, but it will never be removed. Sad as it is that your newborn will have no memory of you, at least the babe is saved from the emotional agony of your loss. I pray that God's peace, which surpasses all human understanding, will sustain your wife and family during this painful season of grief.

My heart is broken. I am so sadden by this loss of another young, vibrant man. I cry as I write this, for Trooper Blanton's wife, child, family and friends. I know the detestation in their lives. I pray for comfort, that I know will be hard to find. I realize that Shawn is now in the company others that walked that thin blue line that made the ultimate sacrifice. That is not much comfort for those of us left behind that miss them and love them, and will never forget them, or stop missing them or loving them. I pray for us all.

To Michaela
I can only imagine the pain you are going through. I hope you will take comfort in knowing that Shawn’s love for you will live on forever. You and Tye will be in my prayers and I promise that Shawn’s memory and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

To Tye
I hope some day you will understand how special your father was. He loved you and you gave his life meaning. Know that your father died protecting freedoms most people take for granted. As you grow up, never question your father’s love for you. He died doing his very best to make the world you will grow up in, a better, safer place.

To my brothers and sisters of the North Carolina Highway Patrol
My heart goes out to all of you. Recognize you must come together and go forward with the knowledge that you are filling in the gap of the Thin Blue Line left by Shawn’s death. I know you will carry on in spite of this tragedy, because like our fallen hero, you realize you must continue to place yourselves in harm’s way to honor his memory and to safeguard your community.

You, Trooper Blanton,
Pledged on your honor
That you would never betray your badge,
Your integrity,
Your character,
Or the public's trust.
You always had the courage
To hold yourself and others
Accountable for your actions.
You upheld the Constitution,
The laws of your Country, State and Community,
And the agency you served,
So help you God.

Rest In Peace My Brother.
