It came as such a shock to us all when we recieved the calls telling us what had happened. Some knew you as a friend, but all knew you as a member of our family. It was an honor to work with you. We will never forget the great sacrifice that you gave to ensure the safety of our families, and the citizens of our county. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. May we see your smile shining down on all of us in the sunshine, and may we hear your laughter in the thunder during a storm. Until we meet again.

Trooper Blanton was called by his heart to service for his community and now you have called his soul to service for You.

We pray for his fellow officers that you will comfort them can give them the focus to drive on in the wake of this tragedy.

Finally, Lord, we pray that you give the rest of us who do this job courage, strength and a reminder why we do it and how dangerous it is.

On behalf of my department, we would like to extend our condolences to the family of Trp. Blanton. My wife, an Oak Island PD officer, and I were on vacation in Haywood County when this tragedy happened. It brought back to reality what we were taking a vacation from. We have kept the family of Trp. Blanton in our prayers. We especially pray for healing for his newborn son. We were unable to attend the service but we were part of the outpouring of support shown as the procession passed through Maggie Valley on its way over the the Cherokee Indian Reservation to his final resting place. It was great to see a community show such support for a fallen hero. I never met Trp. Blanton but reading about things he did in his short life, he touched many lives. We will continue to pray for his family. Just remember, "It is not how these men died that made them heros. It is how they lived." May he rest in peace knowing he was appreciated and respected by even those who never knew him.

From the time we are born until the time we die it's all just walking up the steps to glory and paradise. Now the door has opened for you and you shall be happy living in the house of the Lord. I know that your very much alive right now and because of that we'll all move on.

I've known several Officers, Troopers, and Deputies that have given their life. However, none of them have died. Because you live forever we will move on. Because we move on YOU will never die!

God Bless your family and Thank You for your service

let us all be 10-8 in your memory

I Never Dreamed it Would Be Me
(By Sgt. George Hahn, LAPD, Ret., engraved on the Peace Officer Memorial in CA, across from the west steps of the Capitol Building.)

I never dreamed it would be me,
My name for all eternity,
Recorded here at this hallowed place,
Alas my name, no more my face.
"In the line of duty," I hear them say;
My family now the price will pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears;
We only had those few short years.
The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind,
And pray they keep this thought in mind.
I never dreamed it would be me,
And with heavy heart and bended knee;
I ask for all here from the past,
Dear God, let my name be the last.

Rest in peace brother.

I was with the Fellowship of Christian Atheletes group this weekend at Lake Junaluska as they held your service. I could not help but weep as I watched your wife go by. The service made me yearn for my Savior and I pray that it makes your family do the same. I am continuing to pray for your family daily and we THANK YOU for your service to this country.

"People sleep peacefully in their beds because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf" - George Orwell

Shawn was too young to be taken away from this earth so violently. However, he as well as the rest of us know the risk we take every time we hit the street.

May the hand of our Lord Jesus rest on Trooper Blanton's family during this time of sadness. Remember the joy he brought into your life and keep those memories close, especially for those who come after him.
