Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Everett William Dennis

May God wrap his loving arms around your family, Friends, and Fellow Officers in this time of sorrow. May he give them your faith and vision for a safer world. Blessed are the peacemakers......... Rest in peace my brother we will take it from here.

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his boots were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who wear a badge
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was rough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among these people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you have a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

Everett,

It seems just like yesterday that I was watching you and my son playing together. It seems that the two ofyou should still be out running around, just being little boys, with no care in the world. He would look up to like an older brother. We are going to dearly miss you. We are so proud of the person you became. Brother, rest easy, we will take it from here. We love you.

Mrs. Dennis...please accept my heartfelt condolences...in the loss of your dear son.

My parents...lost my brother...in the same way...in 1961...so I know how devastating it is...to lose one so young...and in such an untimely...and tragic way.

As you grieve...just take one day at a time...and I pray that God will bless you...with an abundance of His grace...as you go forward...during this most difficult time.

May God's perpetual light shine upon the soul of Officer Everett William Dennis...and may he rest in His eternal peace...for having made the ultimate sacrific...in serving and protecting his community.

Hold his memory close to your heart...and remember that someday...you will be with him again.

With my prayers and deepest sympathy.
