Reflections for Police Officer Matthew Barret Thebeau

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

TBO I remember interviewing you for an instructor position for the US Navy Master at Arms School. It was a great choice to have you as one of our firearm instructors. You coached students in a positive manner and always left them with something learned. Firing range time just isn't the same without you. Your personality was always uplifting during a tough day. To all that had the fortunate opportunity to know you, we were blessed. You're a talented young man that will continue to be remembered and brought laughter to the world we live in. I remember you playing the guitar and jumping in a Moon Bounce with kids during a BBQ at a friends house. God Bless You and Your Family.

Dear Matthew and Family,

A beautiful son named Matthew, a proud police officer, 25 years old, a beloved brother, an amazing uncle.....how blessed we both were to have our Matthews. I read some of your reflections and know the disbelief that this life can go on without you here on this earth. I know the pain of everyday needing to see and hug you, I loved the sentence where you put your nephew in the car in his underwear like "why not"......How you are missed, I know.......I miss my Matthew every second of every day. I'm so proud to be a law enforcement mom and offer this reflection to you and your family in honor of the great sacrifice that they will live with until you are reunited forever.

With deepest sympathy and love,
Matt's mom always

To those who loved Officer Thebeau, my heart goes to you all. Know that you're not alone in this journey you walk. I lost my fiance in the line of duty January 2003 and my world was forever changed. Even as time as gone forward, and I've found many reasons and ways to smile, I still have not forgotten the man that he was. Dennis was a beautiful person and he forever has a part of my heart, just as I'm sure Matthew will always be a part of yours.

It takes a special person to put their lives on the line everyday to make this world a little safer for us all. I know many of these men never would've thought of themselves as "heroes" but they were in so many ways. It's sad that it they had to lose their lives for some of us to see that. Having said that, thank you Officer Thebeau for helping to make this world a better place. You will not be forgotten here in Winnipeg. I know this isn't a very manly thing to do, but if you happen to run into Dennis up there, please give him a big hug for the kids and I. Dennis was a good man and we miss him more than words can say.

Wishing those who loved you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne

To the family of Officer Matthew Thebeau..... I just finished reading all of the reflections left by so many. Even his elementary school teacher. I am sorry you must now walk a very difficult path.
The journey to survival takes time. We are still on that same journey. For every
law enforcement officer on this ODMP site there are so many loved ones left behind to miss them. Matthew will never be forgotten, not by his family, not by
his fellow officers and not by a grateful nation. May he rest in peace and may God's peace comfort you.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Thebeau and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Officer Thebeau has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Thebeau, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Thebeau is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.

May God be with the family, friends and Dept. of Officer Thebeau during their time of bereavement. It's always tragic to lose a loved one unexpectantly and at such a young age like this. God Bless you my brother in Law Enforcement. Now gear up and grab a beat in Heaven we'll see you soon.

I just learned about Matt today, his mother sent me an e-mail.

Matt and his family were my next door neighbors in Maryland, while Matt was going to school. He was a terrific kid, I loved him. My most poignant memory is of Matt playing "Taps" at my husband's funersl.

The world has lost a good man.

Hey brother, it's been real hard just attempting to type something for the past couple of weeks. It's especially hard just going into work knowing that we will not run into each other. Even my wife felt like she knew you, hearing all the stories of you when I came home at night ("When Matt and I made this call... and we did...and he said...). She thought we were crazy. I'll miss you brother. You will live on in our hearts and forever in a better place. My prayers go out to you, your family, and friends. May god be with us all.
