Matt,

You were so many things...a great dancer, a wonderful friend, a good listener, so outgoing and full of life. We can remember all of the great times we had going to Cowboys almost every weekend with you and dancing the nights aways. We have lost touch with you since you moved to CC but you have always been in our thoughts, prayers and memories. We will miss you and we love you! Please keep on dancing you have such good rhythm. Rest in Peace!

"I answer the heroic question 'Death, where is thy sting?' with 'It is here in my heart and mind and memories.'" -- Maya Angelou

Aloha e Police Officer Matthew B. Thebeau,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge to become a continuum of the "ODMP Light". That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer.

Every fallen officer is a hero. The ODMP serves as a place where that continuum of "LIGHT" can be seen through and within, the heart and soul of each and every person who honors our fallen heroes with a reflection and/or tribute. As we say in Hawaii, we are `Ohana. We are family.

May God comfort the family and loved ones who have lost their beloved Matthew. May God also comfort those who have lost a fellow officer, friend,
and Police Link member. This in which he can never be replaced in this lifetime.

I wish you peace and love beyond all understanding. You are embraced as one of Hawaii's own with integrity, respect, and fairness as you are a fallen hero. You will never be forgotten. 24-7-365 THANK YOU BLUE.

(A Hawaiian Prayer of Solace)
THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.

My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,

Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".

A'ole ka Maluhia o ke ao aka, ka'u Maluhia wale no,
Ka Maluhia o ka "I".

This news has broken my heart. I remember Matt so vividly as an energetic seventh grader. He was interested in community theatre, and I remember him going up and down the long flight of stairs in his roller blades!
He was a wonderful youngster. I am touched to see that he grew to be a wonderful man.
My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Officer Thebeau, thank you for your service and dedication to a job that is sometimes thankless. Thank you for having a desire to do the job you did. It will always be remembered.

To the family, I know at this time words cannot heal the pain, but memories may help. Remember his smile and his spirit. Remember the jokes and the laughs. Remember the day he became an officer, remember that feeling of pride and carry it with you always.

RIP

A Police Officer's Prayer

When I start my tour of duty God
Wherever crime may be,
as I walk the darkened streets alone,
Let me be close to thee.

Please give me understanding with both the young and old.
Let me listen with attention until their story's told.
Let me never make a judgement in a rash or callous way,
but let me hold my patience, let each man have his say.

Lord, if some dark and dreary night,
I must give my life,
Lord, with your everlasting love
protect my family.

Thank you for trying to make our world better. May god be with you and your family, for your are an eternal hero.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
