Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Donta J. Manuel

I thought about what to write for a long time. I had a lump in my throat, holding back tears. I went upstairs to take a shower so that the tears could blend in with the water. I believe you and brother Wallace are standing at the gates of Heaven ensuring no unlawful people enter. God bless both families during this tragic moment.

Jonathan and Donta,

Words can’t express the sorrow and emptiness that I felt when I heard you both were gone. From the moment I walked into District 5 as a Cadet, Donta you were an inspiration to me. Very few had the strength and determination you had.

Johnathan, while I never had the opportunity to know you, from what I hear, you were a great Law Enforcement Officer. Thank you both very much for your service and always know you will not be forgotten. Rest well, we’ll take it from here.

All the years I've read these and never ran out of things to say. I never thought I'd be writing about one of us from so far away. You know I can't shut-up man....but today I'm stunned. You were a good cop, and a good person. You'll be missed--to your family and friends I hope you find some comfort that he was doing what he loved to do...

To the K9 deputy involved: I have known you for years and I know the kind of person you are----I know this is tearing you up bro---I hope you find comfort with your friends and family as you work through this....

Another deputy has fallen, Lord, You must have had a very special reason for needing him unknown to us. Deputy Manual is now standing his watch in Your Kingdom. He watches and now protects ALL of us. God bless you Deputy Manuel, and thank you for all your time of service and God bless your family for allowing you to serve. Dear Lord take care of him, for he is special and you now have another fine Deputy.

"DON'T GRIEVE FOR ME"
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path god laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call,
I turn my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Task left undone must stay that way,
I found that peace at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Than fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah yes, these things I, too, will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow,
My life's been full, I savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.
I believe in God and believe I will see you again.
It is always hard to lose a loved one no matter where they work or what they do. Losing them at this time of year is so so hard.
Hopefully some of these words will be of some comfort to all who knew Deputy Manuel

Donta you were one of the best officers I ever had the pleasure to work with. It was always a good thing to see you rolling up as a back-up. We have both been in the thick of it together quite a few times and I was always glad to be there with you. You are an inspiration and the world seems a little less bright now that you are gone. I will never ever forget you and will always remember your smile and sense of humor. My prayers go out to your loved ones and to those others, like myself, who you touched with your presence. I'll miss you greatly. God be with you and yours.
