Thank you for your service and dedication to law enforcement. All of us have been at accident scenes and seen drivers not paying a bit of attention -- our sheriff's office lost a deputy in December while directing traffic at a fire scene. Thank you again!

To the wife, son, daughter and grandchildren of Sergeant Karl Strohsal I offer my most sincere condolences.

Whether I come to this page and find a young officer whose life has been abruptly ended or an officer of many years who may have been looking forward to a deserved retirement...there is always the frustration, sadness and disappointment that yet another name has been added to the ODMP site.

I will pray that God will send His graces to this family as they try to cope with their loss of a husband, father and grandfather.

May God's perpetual light shine upon the soul of Sergeant Karl Strohsal, and may he rest in His eternal peace for having made the ultimate sacrifice as he was protecting and serving his community.

With my deepest sympathy,

"A Letter From Heaven"
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say.
But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from Heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me and he said,'I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on.
I need you here badly, you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.'
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night the days chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....In the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years.
Because you are only human they are bound to bring tears.
But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you, you would not understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you, and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it by taking one step at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you to;
That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain;
Then you can say to God at night...."My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented...that my life was worthwhile.
Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low:
Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go...from that body to be free.
Remember you're not going...you're coming here to me.
I will always be with you!
What a senseless tragedy!The family, friends, and all who knew Sgt. Stohsal, you are in our prayers. Words can't help
right now in these dark times. Hopefully you can come here and see all the thoughts and prayers that are sent to you from not only friends, comrades and all who knew this man and many who did not know him.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL

I was inside the jail booking office this morning when I learned of the crash, and typing up a fairly routine arrest report took me 2 hours after hearing the news. I was privileged enough to work with Karl during my rookie year as a law enforcement officer, and I challenge anyone in the business to show me a better representation of what a "good cop" should be.

Karl was knowledgable, compassionate, serious enough about his work to excel, yet stable enough not to let the rigors of the job consume him. My deepest condolences to the Strohsal family, the citizens of Longwood, and especially to my brothers and sisters at the Longwood Police Department. You have all suffered a tremendous and tragic loss...a loss I feel as deeply as they do. I will stand tall at your service, remember a great cop, and honor your memory as long as I wear this badge.

“REMEMBER ME”
Law enforcement officers are, indeed, a special breed of people. Ask anyone on the street and they will tell you that they would not have our jobs for anything in the world. It takes something special to do what we do and at the same time be able to even contemplate retirement. We try to be optimists. Unfortunately, there are a few of us who will never make that date with retirement. By the very nature of our job, we are at risk everyday of losing our lives, either at the hand of some deranged individual or in some other situation that we, by virtue of our occupation, may be unable to avoid. Some people have recognized the hazardous duties we involve ourselves in, the risks we take, and the pride we take in accomplishing that job. There is National Law Enforcement Week, dedicated to us who gladly accept the responsibility of protecting the citizens in our respective jurisdictions. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. These are but two examples of remembrances specifically for law enforcement personnel. Remembrances that come but once a year. We should remind fellow officers of another type of remembrance, one that will last a lifetime. Sooner or later, a doctor will pronounce us dead. It is inevitable. Regardless of whatever happens, death is the end we will all have to face.

I AM A WARRIOR
by Jon F. Hooper

I fight not for glory or fame,
For they are momentary.
I fight for those who can't.
I fight for Justice.
I fight for the oppressed and the down trodden.
And if I should lose my life for these just causes,
then I have no regrets,
For I serve to protect the innocent.
It matters not where or when,
For evil knows no boundaries.
Be it fire, flood, or the threat of tyranny,
I will not flee.
Justice is my weapon.
Faith is my shield.
Hope is my armor.
Cry not at my passing,
For it was my Honor to fight for you.
Shed not tears of sorrow,
But tears of joy,
For now,
I stand with God.

Rest In Peace Brother.

POLICEMAN’S 23RD PSALM

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime,
But He gives me courage and peace of mind

He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And He says in Romans, I’m a “minister of God,”
He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul,
For His name’s sake He keeps me whole.

When I walk through death’s valley, right up to the door,
I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more;
For Thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.

He prepares a table, especially for me,
As I work daily among life’s enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And He anoints my position in the midst of it all.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear Him say, “Well done…”
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.

Rest in Peace, Brother…

Sarge, I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you. I struck a piece of furniture on the interstate last night too and had to pull over. I was so afraid of getting hit because traffic just doesn't slow down like they should when they see emergency lights. God bless you Sarge. Your family and department will be in my prayers.
