I think my cousin was 6 when his father was killed in the line of duty. I never met my uncle, as he died before I was born. My aunt eventually married again and her second husband raised my cousin with love and the knowledge that his true father was a hero. But Officer Billy Arthur Rose of the Abilene, Texas Police Department (EOW Oct. 10, 1952) has always been as much a family member as all those we could see and touch. The time-worn stories of his honor and bravery, his sense of humor, and his undying love for my aunt and cousin continue to be a part of our family's heritage some 55 years after his death.

I hope the McCoy family and the Abilene PD family will take comfort knowing that your beloved Jeff will continue to live on through your memories of him, even for some who never met him.

God bless and comfort you all in this terrible time, and please know that the remaining family of a fellow Abilene fallen officer grieves the loss of this fine man with you.
