Dear Family, Friends and Co-Workers of Officer Poling,

As a survivor, each EOW notice hurts no matter who it is or where they are from. You still feel the same pain and emptiness. We are so sorry for your loss and your family will be in our prayers through this difficult time of your fresh grief. May you find a small measure of comfort in knowing there are many people who care. Focus on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort.

The policeman stood and faced God,

Which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining,

Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,

"No lord, I guess I ain't,

Because those of us who carry a badge

can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,

and at times my talk was rough,

and sometimes I've been violent,

Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,

That wasn't mine to keep

Though I worked a lot of overtime

When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,

Though at time I shook with fear.

And sometimes, God forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place

Among the people here.

They never wanted me around

Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,

It needn't be so grand.

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne

Where the saints had often trod.

As the policeman waited quietly,

For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,

You've born your burdens well.

Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,

You've done your time in hell"

Dave, Michelle & Girls:
The loss that is felt by all that REALLY knew and loved Dave is immeasurable. So many think they knew him when in reality so few really did. My husband really knew and loved this man for all the things he was and aspired everyday to learn and be more like him. The work relationship that you two had was far outshadowed by the personal relationship that you forged, bringing the two of our families together in ways that will be remembered forever. Our children love one another and you as much as we do. Michelle, you told me how blessed you were to have your best friend for a husband, I know that feeling, and cherish it even more now. Dave, your sacrifice for what you believed to be right and true will live on in legacy with Fred and your children for eternity. God Bless you, you truly are a fallen hero, and will be remembered in our household for the truly special person you are. Michelle, you and the girls have a place with us anytime, night or day, and we will always be here for you. We love you all so very much, thank you for being a role model not only for your girls, but for our children too. They, nor we, will ever forget you. We love you, Dave.
