Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Paul Steven Habelt

Mr. Habelt, (you know I am not going to call you Paul)

The next time that we meet we will not talk "crooks" togeather, but we will at the the right hand of The Father be joyful for the life that we were given, and the times that were shared, and no longer weep with the thoughts that hurts us deep down. You have done your part, we will handle the rest...Thank you for who you were to me. You will be in my thoughts for eternity. Until we meet again...

PAUL,
THE DAY YOU FIRST WALKED THROUGH MY FRONT DOOR WITH NITA, AND I SAW THE GLOW ON HER FACE, I KNEW YOU WERE SOMEONE SPECIAL. I THOUGHT A LOT OF YOU FOR BRINGING HAPPINESS BACK INTO HER LIFE. YOU WERE NOT ONLY A BROTHER OF THE BADGE, BUT EVENTUALLY YOU BECAME MY BROTHER-IN-LAW. THE TRAGIC EVENTS OF 05-17-07 THAT CLAIMED YOUR LIFE AND TOOK YOU FROM US WILL REMAIN WITH ME FOREVER. THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH WORDS TO EXPRESS THE SORROW I FEEL RIGHT NOW. THROUGH THIS EVENT I HAVE COME TO KNOW SOME WONDERFUL MEN AND WOMEN OF THE HENDERSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT. I KNOW THAT NITA WILL BE WELL TAKEN CARE OF BY THEM. I ONLY WISH IT COULD BE YOU THOUGH. PAUL, I LOVE YOU AND WILL ALWAYS REFER TO YOU AS "MY BROTHER-IN-LAW". YOU ARE THE GREATEST AND WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED.

Paul...I didn't know you all that well, mainly through Nita in dispatch and seeing you there a few times and shooting the breeze. You were always a helpful person, willing to give it your all. You always had a smile on your face and just all around a great guy!!! May God hold you tightly and may you spread your kindness and love above. You will always watch over Nita and the family and be there for them. You are Nitas Guardian Angel now Paul...she loves you with all her heart and one day, you will be together again. Rest in peace Paul.

Deputy Sheriff

I have known Paul Habelt since he was a young and new police officer in Oakland. His father, Milt, was an officer as well. I knew him when he was shot in Lake Tahoe doing his job and so thankful he pulled through. Police work was so about who Paul was. He was so good at what he did and was happy to be doing it. I am thankful that he was there to serve and protect as I am sure many others are. My heart goes out to his family as well as his friends of Henderson County. My thoughts and prayers are with them all. Paul, you will be missed so much by all of the people whose lives you have touched. God be by your side always.
