To the family of Officer Dan Bessant,
I am so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the support of your faith, your family, your friends and the law enforcement community. My aunt was Los Angeles Police Officer Christy Hamilton. She too was shot through the arm hole of her vest by a 17 year old. My family understands the pain that comes from a loss this great. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. He will never be forgotten. Dan, may you rest in love and everlasting life.

To Mrs Bessant & the Oceanside PD,

I have been sitting at this computer trying to find "just the right words" to type. Sadly I admit there are none. No words that can provide comfort, no words that can begin to express how deeply saddened we are as a nation to have lost this fine young officer. Although we are seperated by miles, we are bound by this Thin Blue Line and this unexplainable grief.

I am so very angry that a juvenile delinquent robbed this family of a son, a brother, a husband, A DADDY. I use the word "juvenile" because no such person could or should EVER be considered a man. Right or wrong I hope he pays dearly for the choices he made, and I hope his journey is a very unpleasant one.

God bless your loved ones Officer Bessant, both your immediate family and your police family. Visit them in their dreams and hold them tight.

It takes a special person to be a peace officer. Thank you for choosing to serve and protect. May you rest in peace.

"A Part Of America Died,"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

We send our prayers to all of you and hope that you will know that we are with you in spirit.

To the family, and police department of Officer Bessant,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Officer Dan Bessant, this is such a tragedy. Please know that not only are those closest to you praying for you but so are the families of other law enforcement officers all over the united states. We truly are an extended family and we all grieve when we lose a "good guy"

To the wife of Officer Bessant, I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through but I pray that you find strength in knowing that your husband was doing what he loved to do and that you have a beautiful child that was created by a love stronger than any other on this earth. Dan is now in heaven watching over us all. Peace be with you during your time of sorrow and despair.

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of a Saviour, we must now mourn the loss of this saviour. Our Saviour made the ultimate sacrifice and paid a debt He didn't owe because we owe a debt we cannot pay. This saviour made the ultimate sacrifice to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Our Saviour lives. This saviour, too, shall live again. Rest In Peace.
