I am the survivng sister of Alabama Conservation Officer James Lance Horner,Jr.(EOW 6/23/2003). My heart breaks for the family and co-workers of this brave woman.I know the pain that you're feeling. You will find strength beyond reason that could only come from God himself. May God cradle you in His arms of love! I'm praying for each co-worker and family member.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Officer Smith, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

Another sinceless loss of an officer who was performing her duty and the job I am sure she loved, otherwise she would not be doing it. Taken from all who loved her by someone's sinceless act, and who has no regard for another person's life. God has plans for Mary and we just don't understand why.
"A Part Of America Died ",
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.

mary, mary it was just a few hours ago we were saying good-bye to sgt.hill and now no words can form for me . in you was a genuine peace that GOD knew we at west precinct needed , in you was my friend that truly will be missed . i remember us talking trough the years about your rasheka and my joi two little girls loved so much by their police officer moms . the fear sometimes when they were so young of us one day not coming home . GOD blessed us mary , because they're both 22 yrs. old now and we saw them grow up, but GOD blessed me even more to have brought you into my life as a fellow officer , a sister in blue and a great friend . i remember the homicde call we had where the two small kids were left in the car overnight with the victim's blood all over them you held them scared, cold and hungry, you held them in your arms and we both just looked at each other , the look that only a mother knows , then we patted each other on the shoulder and reassured them that it was going to be okay ... i'll miss you my friend and don't worry about tammy and rasheka ,you know west precinct . tell joe we say hello and give my dad and donovino a hug , i know they'll find their way to you ... and as you would always say to rasheka and tammy before hanging up the telephone "love ya , see ya , bye" we love you , val p.s. rasheka says she knows how to make the soup so don't worry i'll get it . i just have to make sure tammie does'nt add anything to it!

Our family grieves with the family, friends, and co-workers of Officer Mary Smith. Having made a career out of law enforcement, and to have her life so brutally taken by those who have no concern for human life, is beyond conprehension.

We send best wishes to her partner for a full recovery.

God bless you, Officer Smith. Rest in peace.
