To the family of Trooper Risner-
My own loss taught me that there are no words to ease the pain that you carry after the terrible loss of your husband and father. You may feel very alone right now, but please know that you have an extended family of law enforcement personnel and survivors, especially within the COPS organization, who share your sadness now and who will be there to support you in your journey of grief as time goes on.

May you find strength in your faith, family and friends during these difficult days.

A Real Hero Indeed

A hero is real; it’s inside all of us.
Some show it everyday,
Some hide it away.
You are a hero, it was your job.
To take criminals off the street,
To keep a community safe.
And sometimes it takes a person,
To lay down his own life for another,
And that is what you did.
And what do we give in thanks.
A coffin draped with the America flag,
A 21-gun salute.
Bagpipes being played, and
Even taps.
What do we have to remember you?
A folded flag, a badge, a uniform.
And slowly we will forget the story.
But one thing that wont be forgotten,
Is who you were,
Who you are
And what you did.
That signifies you a hero Indeed!

Rest In Peace Blue Angel....A true hero indeed!!

Josh was first off an Ohio State Buckeye fan. A fun guy to hang out with, I knew him through his step mother who was my partner and Station Chief for SEOEMS. I came to know Josh, his wife and children, who were frequent visitors at the station. I came to know his father, a retired trooper who was proud of his son and passed his badge to upon his retirement. I came to know his sister, who works with my brother as a corrections officer. Josh also has a brother in Texas that I recently met. All great people. The Risners are a family of public service. A close family with close ties. I loved talking to Josh, he always made me laugh. He was almost a carbon copy of his father with the way he talked, laughed and carried himself. Josh and his father were always hanging out and doing things together, it was neat to see them together and they always seemed to have fun. I've heard lots of stories from his step mom (my former EMS partner) about the funny things he did. Josh always seemed to be able to cheer his step mom up when things weren't going well. My best wishes are for the family, the children who I played with and enjoyed so many times at the station and Josh's friends, many of them will miss him greatly.

Thanks for your service, your friendship and the small amount of time I spent hanging out with you. You will always be a great person in my mind and you will be missed..
