How saddened we are in the law enforcement community. I watched the news and could not believe what I was hearing. Deputy Sheriff William made the ultimate sacrafice for all of us. At least now he works a beat with no violence. God's Kingdom is filled with peace. See you on the other side Matt.

Dep. Vernon Matthew Williams and Family,

Your Husband,Dad,Brother,Friend is a hero to all of us. His was a bold, brave calling that he met and will be honored till the last police officer makes his stand against the evil of this world. The coward that did this met his fate at the hands of Dep. Williams brother but deserved a much worse fate. In hell he will get his reward. God Bless the men and women of the Polk Co. Sheriff's Office and Freedom Fighters everywhere. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I met Matt when I was a dispatcher for the Polk County Sheriff's Office in 1999. Although we weren't close friends, Matt was always in good spirits both on the radio and in person. He was professional and personable, dependable, and always quick to respond. I can't even count the times that he would be 10-51 (enroute) before I could even assign him to the call. My prayers are with the Williams family. Matt, you will be greatly missed.

While I've never had the privilage to personally know Deputy Matt Williams and "Diogi", their loss is felt none the less.

I know God will hold them in his arms and bless their soles. May God grant his family the strenght to cope with the loss and celebrate Matt & "Diogi's" lives. There is no greater honor bestowed upon man, than when he gives his life to protect another.

Rest in peace, my friend. If I am privilaged enough, I will see meet you on the other side. Until then, we will guard your post as if it were our own.
