Dear Muff,
It hasn't always been easy watching you grow up and get ready to take your place in this world. But it has been a joy to see the wonderful qualities you had developed. Your positive outlook on life, the way you took responsibility and your caring attitutde toward others were just a few of the things that made you special to me, our family and appreciated by everyone who knew you. I see my Son & I love Him... Truly Sweetie, I miss you... Mom

Kieran, was truly a blessing to all of us. His love for his family was a extension of God's love. He has made his family so proud of Him for being the loving, caring and generous person God had created him to be. He gave of himself unselfishly. We are all called to this earth for a divine purpose. Some of us will never know that purpose if don't surround themselves with positive people like our nephew. We must value and appreciate what God has given us and let our love ones know how much we love them.

Kieran, thank you sooooo much for showing that love in the time you spent with us. We know God has great plans for your children, and by God's mercy and grace, we promise to be there for them and Mo.

From the deepest part of our heart that hurts so much from being apart from you. We love you!!!!!
P.S you can really sing / I'm for real:o)

Aloha Detective Kieran T. Shields,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here. That "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is an hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find comfort as we give comfort to the families who have lost a loved one.

As we say in Hawaii, “We are`Ohana.” We are family. God Bless this fallen hero. May we embrace him as one of our own family member; our `Ohana. No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace.

Detective Kieran T. Shields, I wish you, your loved ones, your fellow officers, and friends, peace and love beyond all understanding.
--- May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. ---

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.

My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,

Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".

A'ole ka Maluhia o ke ao aka, ka'u Maluhia wale no,
Ka Maluhia o ka "I".

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Detective Shields, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Kieran, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Kieran's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Kieran's life was about so much more than the way he died. Kieran will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Detective Shields, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Written by Peter Hornbach

The Policeman stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?"

The officer squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Cause those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.

But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I've never expected or had too much. But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.

"Step forward now, Officer, you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's Streets. You've done your time in Hell."

An Angel in the sky must leave his place of rest.
Gently tucking his wings beneath his armored vest.
For duty has called, there is much work to do.
Little did he know, this one is dressed in blue.

Arriving on scene, he knew just what to say.
"Follow me fallen brother, Ill show you the way".
Your duty has ended, your work is now through.
Come hang your hat beside mine,
I was a cop too.

Rest in Peace brother.

Warrior's Last Prayer

. . . Father
. I hear singing
. what does it mean?
They are praying for you.
. But I am not dead.
No . . . You are not dead.
. My friends
. some were hurt.
They will be all right.
. But I feel all right too
. I do not hurt any more
. why can't I move?
. why can't I see clearly?
You will see clearly, My son.
. my family
. I love them, Father
. will they understand?

With heavy hearts . . . they will understand.
. mom
. dad
. will they be all right?
I will give them peace.
. the singing, Father
. it's farther away now.
Listen as they pray more sweetly . . .
. are they praying for my friends?

For them
. and for you.
. will we be together again?
Forever . . . and ever
Father . . .
. they have stopped singing
. what does it mean?
Rest now
. My good and faithful servant
. and forever more
. Welcome into My home.
