As somebody who worked with Scott at BCP several years ago I am deeply saddened by his death. I pray for his family and friends to be able to make it through this most difficult time. Anybody who knew Scott had the privilege of knowing a fine and upstanding person, a memory which will not soon be forgotten. Rest in peace-Justice will be served.

I have had the honor of working with Scott, and will always have the story of the foot chase we were in to tell to everyone. I will always remember how you and Eddinger kept going the extra mile to help us round up the bad guys. I also hold the highest respect for both you and Eddinger and my thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Scott what can I really say. I will always remember how you busted my chops about the way I talked on the radio. The nights at brokos but more importantly your great personallity. You were always there to help out a fellow brother. Words cannot describe your dedication to the profession. So rest in peace my friend for you will never be forgotten.

Until we meet again goodbye. Your friend forever "County"

Scotty,

Right now we should be at the beach, but we’re not. Two weeks from now we should be in Philly, but we won’t be. In September we should be in St. Lucia, but we won’t be. Instead on Tuesday we will be at your viewing. Wednesday we will lay you to rest, and once again, life will never be the same. There will be no more “losing track of time”, “Scotty wanted to go there”, the Chinese phone calls, or picking up a new cooler at the Meadowlands…..and it hurts….it hurts bad….First Mike, now you. What’s next? I can’t believe this is happening…again. Someday this will all make sense, but for now I just don’t get it. You said at your surprise 40th party that you wouldn’t make it to 50..Who knew? Trish, Jared, and Josh are going to be fine. It won’t be easy, but they have loads of friends and family that will get them through this. They know that you loved them and that you are a hero to us all. May you and Mike keep watch over everyone from heaven and keep us safe. We all miss you. Until we meet again, God bless you my friend and may you rest in peace…

To Ofcs Wertz Family, Friends, and Brothers and Sisters of Reading Police my deepest regrets on this tragic event. I know it is always tough to deal with the pain when we lose that special person but I found this poem and wanted it to share it with you all. It is not mine but this sounds like brother Wertz from what I have read:

The badge shines bright
On the shirt of blue.
It takes a strong soul to wear it
A heart that's proud and true.

He says good night to his family
before he walks out the door.
He must go watch the streets,
Yet he does so much more.

In his car, when the call comes,
The lights are flashing blue and red.
He would never hurt his children,
He can't believe what was just said.

With his partner awaiting,
He has to be there, he must answer the call!
The wife is frantic,
"Put the gun down," but the man won't withdraw.

Shots are fired, his partner is hit in the arm,
One more flash is seen, someone must fall.
His partner is there, and so is the man,
and on the ground He lies, giving his all.

He says goodbye to his family,
With the pain in his chest.
The lights are flashing, blue and red,
As he begins his final rest.

Leaving a wife and two children,
Is the hardest thing He would ever do,
How will they live,
What are they going to go through?

Will His children grow old,
will His wife move on?
Will they know how much He loved them,
Now that He is gone?

He was only doing His job,
Trying to help who He could.
It was never known hard it was to be a Cop,
But now His family understood.

On three cheeks, three tears shine bright,
Like rain from a cloud,
It takes three strong souls to shed them,
Saying goodbye from hearts that will always be proud.

Good Speed, Until We Meet Again!

My heart breaks for Scott's family. I remember seeing him at the events raising money for the Michael H. Wise, II Fund. He was a kind person. Tricia, I can't stop thinking about you and your family. I'm devastated that you have to go through this, too. Your life will never be the same but please know that I am here for you and will do what I can to help. Always remember Scott and his life.

God bless.

I've visited Reading several times on vacations. It's a nice place, thanks in large part to officers like you who keep it safe. Your death is a tragedy, and, though words don't mean much in this situation, I offer my most sincere condolences to your family. No one deserves that news.
