He was one of the kindest hearted people I have ever known. He did some detail work for my company and everytime he spoke of his wife and kids, the love was written all over his face. He was a truly decent man.

I didn't know "OX" very well, but I started with the Dept.in 1997 and he was always smiling, kind and really nice.It shocked me that he was a Commander of Narcotics and I was just a jailor but he didn't disregard any of us.He was respected by me,always had "hello"for you even if he saw you 10 times a day.I saw him the day before he ws killed and I regret that he was on the phone,I was busy.He said "hi",but we didn't get to talk.I wish I would've have had the chance to pass a word with him.I wish he knew how much I liked him as a person, respected him as an officer, admired him as a co-worker.He will be sorely and sadly missed.

Thank you Commander Gonzales for your selfless service to the community you served daily. Condolences won't ease the pain that everyone is feeling with the loss of yet another great officer. I can only pray that GOD will send a peace and comfort to the Sheriff's Department and the Gonzales family as you endure the days and weeks to come. The suspect may receive some justice on earth but will stand before an Almighty GOD who will deliver justice once and for all. You will be in our prayers. It takes a strong person to believe in something. But it takes a Hero to devote your life to what you believe in. Although all of our uniforms are different colors. In times like these all of our tears are blue. May God bless you and your family Commander Gonzales

Everytime I come here I pray there will be no more. Then I realize that as long as there are criminals in this world, there will be heros protecting it.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Cmdr. Gonzales, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Then the rainstorm came, over me
And I felt my spirit break
I had lost all of my, belief you see
And realized my mistake
But time through a prayer, to me
And all around me became still

I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Through the rainstorm came sanctuary
And I felt my spirit fly
I had found all of my reality
I realize what it takes

'Cause I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Oh I, don't bet (don't bend), don't break (don't break)
Show me how to live and promise me you won't forsake
'Cause love can help me know my name

Well I try to say there's nothing wrong
But inside I felt me lying all along
But the message here was plain to see
Believe me

'Cause I need love, love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love, love is what I need to help me know my name

Oh I, don't bet (don't bend), don't break (don't break)
Show me how to live and promise me you won't forsake
'Cause love can help me know my name

Love can help me know my name

R.I.P. Commander. I offer condolences and prayers for your family and loved ones.

Police Officer I
New Orleans Police Department

June 16, 2006

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell
