A person like James is hard to come by. This young man was my hero in so many ways and touched so many people in his 27 years of life. His smile his laugh and loving personality will always be remembered. James loved and respected life and lived it to the fullest. He was always challenging himself and never settled for second best. His life will be celebrated through the memories that our family has of him, and believe me there are many. His two beautiful children that he left behind will always know what a wonderful human being he was through the stories and memeories of their daddy. It will take my whole life to be half the man that James was. James, I love you, I miss you, and I will never forget you. God bless you.

James,my dear grand nephew; the painful reality of your loss has hit home this time. As a former Marine Viet-nam veteran, I deeply honor the sacrifice you made for our GOD BLESSED country, and for the citizens of New Mexico.
Thank God for your courage, unselfish sacrifice, and paying the ultimate price for freedom.
While taps were being played to take you to your eternal rest, a painful reminder was put upon us to realize that FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. Let not your seperation from us be in vain. As Fr. Dennis Garcia, a family member put it, "death is not a loss but a change in our relationship", the day we let go of the memories, then is when death becomes a reality".
(Romans 8:39)Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to seperate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Matthew 22:37-39)Jesus replied:"Love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself'. Your dedicated service to the Marine Corps, and as New Mexico State Patrolman is truely an example of your love for your fellow man.
James. I cherish the memories of your life, as your Godfather, witnessing your receiving of the sacrament of baptism, fishing, snow tubing, the rowdy Broncos fan that you were, competing with your grandma (my sister)as to which one talked the most and the loudest during family re-unions.
Our prayers go to family members, Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Rouse, Anthony Archuleta, Arapahoe County Sheriffs Deputy, Angela Barra, Denver County Sheriffs Deputy,as well as every person wearing a military uniform.
Lord God, Heavenly Father, lay your loving hand upon them, protect them as they protect us.

This message is from the Father of James. I returned home to Denver yesterday June 11 and this is the first chance I have had to send this long overdue message.

I first want to express my upmost gratitude to the New Mexico State Police Department. They are one of the finest organizations I have ever had the priviledge of working with. There dedication and proffessionalism is second to none. They went way above and beyond the call of duty. James's entire family is extrememly grateful.

To the ones who have taken the time to post a message on this site. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This entire experience has been overwhelming in many respects. I never knew this site existed and I hope no one ever has to find out like I did. Your sentiments and your prayers have helped us all through a very difficult time.

James was a remarkable man. He was a son any Father would be proud of. He will be greatly missed by everyone who ever knew him. As his brother Leon said at his funeral, "James did everything he ever said he would do." He not only did it, he did with a determination and gusto few of us posses. James was a charming and charismatic man. His sense of humor was engaging. James went wherever and whenever he was called. He did it for his country, for the residents of Northern New Mexico, for his friends and family and ultimatly his God.

James loved his family with his huge heart. They were the most important thing in his life. I will leave this poem with you. A poem I wrote a few days after his passing.

Even though we never had the opportunity to meet James in person, we talked with him a number of times on the phone. We knew from those brief conversations that James was a very honorable man, just like his father Donnie, with whom we are good friends. Our hearts go out to the family for your lose. We say a prayer ever night that the legacy of James continues through his children and the families’ fond memories of him. May God watch over his dear wife and give her support and love. May he rest in peace and may the good lord give solace to the family.

Hermano, you have been called upon by God for a greater service. Because of that, we mourn your early departure from life here on earth. I pray that God will provide your children, your fiance, and all your family with peace and understanding of his greater need for you with him. I offer to your family that although I did not know you, you are a true hero; your short time on earth is to be celebrated, for all that you have done and all that you have touched, reflects that your time here on earth has made a positve difference. Your service here on earth to your country as a Marine, to your fellow New Mexicans as New Mexico State Police Officer, shall not be forgotten.

From a fellow former Marine and a fellow New Mexico Peace Officer; Semper Fi Brother, Rest In Peace, Y que Dios Bendiga la familia de usted. Gracias por el servicio y sacrificio que los disteis...

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

My family has prayed for your family and fellow officers that keep us safe. We were just traveling along the HWY. when we came to the road block where we learned of Officer Archuleta's death. My family started praying right there and then for him and his family. I am deeper sadden to hear how young he was. God must have truly needed him for something special to take him so soon.
I knew by the way things were handled, and the amount of HWY that was closed, he must have been a Great Man! and truly loved.

My heart goes out to your family during this very trying time. Just a couple of days ago we lost one of our own here in Smith County, Texas, Constable Dale Geddie, during a shoot-out. When you two meet in Heaven and share memories, remember the ones here who are carrying on until we all meet again someday.
